Arizona

Both boys, plus Gunner Hubbard (not shown here) got their deer on the same day.  All the bucks were 3×3 plus eyeguards and scored roughly 80-90 inches.

Gunner and Bridger didn’t have a lot of time to hunt because they had to leave to go help their grandfather on his elk hunt (they were successful).

Alan got this buck after a very eventful four days of hunting.  Read his hunt story, it’s pretty unusual.

Wade hunted 6 days after first seeing this buck.  He finally go him on the last Saturday of the hunt.  He grosses 111 and drops to 105 after deductions.  This is Wade’s best buck, beating the 100 incher he got a few years ago.

Unit 36A/C, Arizona – Youth hunt  Oct. 2004

All these bucks were taken within a mile of each.  Brian Fisher (aka azpackhorse) sent in the photos and he helped the kids get these fine bucks.  Brian also said the buck he got this year was taken in the same area.

Ryan Dyson (top photo), who is 13 years old,  shot his deer in  36c using a .260 REM @ 170 yards. This is Ryan’s first deer, he is a 2×2 (not counting eye guards) also on the Oct. hunt 2004.

Teddy Dyson (middle photo), who is 14 years old, shot his deer using a .270 @ 358 yds.  It’s a real nice 3×3 (not counting eye guards). This was Teddy’s 3rd coues buck.

Christian Dyson (bottom photo), he is 11 years old and this is his first deer, Brian really tried to convince him to shoot a coues but he  wanted a mulie. He used a .243 and made a 100 yard shot also in 36c.
Congratulations to all three of these youth hunters!!  They all took their deer with one shot!

Brady’s hunting buddies did well too, altogether they got four bucks averaging around 85 inches.

Nov 2004

Unit 36A, Arizona

Robert (on left) went out hunting with Byron Benson and Justin Benson (on right in this photo and who got the deer shown above).  Robert was successful at getting his first Coues Deer.  He dropped the deer with a 110 yard shot from a 30-06.

This buck had broken G-2s and part of it’s main beam busted off.  So he would have been quite a bit bigger if he hadn’t broken off three of his four points.

This buck was with three spikes who just milled around after the shot.  Justin Benson chose to pass on those bucks and held out for the larger one.

Unit 36A, Arizona

This buck is a nice 3×3 (plus eyeguards) that has some nice mass throughout its rack. The buck is very symmetrical and has some nice length on the eyeguards.  Byron (Justin’s brother) says this buck only scored around 85 inches due to the fact it was lacking width, it is only about 11 inches wide.

Justin took this buck with a .270 at 500-520 yards.  This is Justin’s second Coues deer.  To see his first, look here.

Alex Howard 2004

Nov 2004

Unit 36A, Arizona

Danny Howard (a regular CouesWhitetail.com member) had this to say about his daughter’s hunt:

Here are some pictures of my daughter Alex and her coues buck, along with me and my son Chase. She is eleven years old and this is her second buck in two years. I only had one day to take her hunting. So we drove down from Safford late on November 19th to south of Tucson and got there at dark. We spent the night with Ernesto and his brothers at their camp in 36C. We got up at 4:30 and left for 36A. We went to a ranch that I had grown up on, to hunt some small hills. All morning, I was glassing up lots does and fawns. At about 11:00am, I glassed up this buck bedded down. It took me almost 20 minutes to decide if it was a buck or not. He was laying in some catclaw and sometimes it looked like a buck and others not. We stalked to within 500 yards and only then was I able to make out the antlers very well in the brush. We continued stalking up the desert washes until we got to within 234 yards. I had her lay down and then had to calm her down, telling her to take her time. She squeezed off the shot from her .22-250, I heard the distinctive sound of the “thump” of a hit. The buck got up and ran up the hill about 20 yards. I told her to shoot it again. She shot again and the buck dropped in its tracks. After a couple of high-fives and a hug, we went and retrieved her nice 4 x 4 buck.

If you would like to see Alexandra’s first deer, you can find it here.

Travis Miller 2004

June 22, 2012 by CouesWhitetail in Rifle Gallery with 0 Comments

Nov 2004

Unit 31, Arizona

This deer was taken by Travis Miller who is 12 years old. Looks like a very large buck, but they didn’t send me any measurements on it.

Here is his story:

“My Dad had taken a nice 3 point coues deer in the same area, so he decided to take me into this area. we were glassing when my dad spotted 2 smaller bucks. he decided to move in closer to get a better look, as we moved closer we spotted two bigger bucks going over the ridge. So we pay our attention towards the bigger bucks. we were about 600 yards away and we slowly snuck closer to get a better shot. when we got to the place we wanted to be, we realized that we could not see them any more, so my grandpa decided to flush the buck out. when he did the first buck got away. when the second buck came out 300 yards away, and that’s when I killed my deer.”

Brian shot this buck Wednesday morning 11/17. He was not the monster Brian had hoped for but he decided to take ownership of him and is proud non-the-less.  Brian harvested him using his 300 win mag @ 170yards when he was moving up hill. He is a 4 x 3 (not counting eye guards).

To me, it’s a trophy!! Spike or not, I’ll have a freezer full of venison to enjoy this winter.”

The buck will score around 95 inches. Jose’s sister Danielle had a shot at a monster buck the day before Jose shot this one. She is 12 yrs old  and unfortunately missed the shot. Jose is 14yrs. old and is also pictured on here and here.

Unit 32, Arizona

Noel shot a nice 106 gross 4×4 (without eyeguards) . This buck would have been around 109 but he broke about a three inch tine at the main beam, which would have made him a 4×5. He says the horn growth appears to be awesome this year in unit 32. This deer did not seem to be very old. While he was shooting his, his father glassed a bigger one. His dad has a Nov. tag and they are hoping to find that one again.
