This was Erik’s first Coues deer.  He got it after a great stalk which closed with a 100 yard shot.  Mark Bool (shown in lower photo) and Erik’s father Rick hunted with Erik and found this buck late in the afternoon.

Erik and Mike Bool (hunter above) are good friends and always apply for tags together.

Dec 2004
(aka Rembrant)
Unit 23, Arizona

Mike hunted with his brother Martin (who also got a buck). Here is what Mike had to say about his hunt:

We backpacked for 7 days, took two days off for Christmas and backpacked for another 6 days – weathered the big storm on the mountain!! (see bottom photo of wet camp!)

We saw on average 16 deer a day, 3-5 bucks a day, mostly small bucks running the does all over the mountains. We saw 6 bucks that would score over 90″. That’s a big buck every other day. We did not try to kill anything until after Christmas. We saw one buck that was clearly over 100″ and another that was pushing 100″. Both of those bucks beat us. The deer I killed was tending a doe and that’s what got him killed – that was on our eighth day of hunting, the day of the full moon. The remaining 5 days, the big bucks were moving, moving, moving.

December 2004

Unit 21, Arizona

Christmas Eve morning was an extremely cold and windy morning. After watching two does on and off for about three hours, the buck appeared as though he was on the hill side with the does the entire time. After a 45 minute stalk, she shot him at 130 yards. The buck was very symmetrical however lost the right G2 and the main beam after the G3 when it tumbled about 25 yards down a steep slope after she shot it. They were able to find part of the G2, however they will never know the official score before it broke off. If you double the deers’ left side it is roughly 91 1/2 gross.

Six for six in 2004

June 23, 2012 by CouesWhitetail in Rifle Gallery with 0 Comments

This group of hunters went 6 for 6 this year in Unit 33 during the October 2004 hunt. And five of those hunters were first timers!!

In the top photo you can see the group and all six deer.  The young boy in the middle of the group is AJ Rose and he got his buck with a 380 yard shot.

From left to right on the bottom row we have:

Trevor Brown with a 90 inch buck

Melanie Barnett with a buck she got with a 503 yard shot.

The full-bodied buck was taken by Melanie’s husband, Casey. He took that buck on the same hill 5 days after his wife and daughter got their bucks.

Next is Rudy Anderson in the camo hat with his 85 inch buck he got with a 250 yard shot.

And on the right end of that row is Cami Barnett proudly showing her buck.  You can see more photos of hers below.  She got that buck with one shot from 430 yards.

coues

The photos below and to the left show Melanie and her daughter Cami who got their bucks on the same hill within about 10 minutes of each other!  There is also one photo below with Casey (Cami’s father) and his buck.

Wow, what success!  How many families can say the father, mother, and daughter all got bucks from the same area during the same season!

The top photo is a buck that was taken in 2000 and scores around 96 gross and 92-93 net. The next one is a smaller 2×2 taken in 2002 (snow picture) and finally two pictures of the buck from this year’s hunt, a 3×4 with double eye-guards on both sides. Jason just got him Monday night (12/20/04) and his total score with no deducts is around 106 5/8 (unofficial from a friend-of-a-friend) and nets over 100 as a non-typical according to a friend of his who is an official scorer.
