David Krouse 2005
Nov 2005
Unit 33, Arizona
Here is what David had to say about his hunt:
My father/hunting buddy were hunting unit 33 during the Nov hunt. We saw a lot of deer including a 90-95 inch buck with a kicker off his right G2 that we passed up. Saturday evening I glassed a good looking buck that was real heavy but had short main beams. He was the only buck I saw that night and was too far to go after with the available light so I decided to go check him out in the morning. I hiked into the area from another direction and set up on a hill to glass. I found six bucks right off the bat and the heavy buck was with them. I ranged him from where I was as I could not get any closer and found him to be about 450 yds. I set up my rifle and too my surprise my rest was rock solid so I squeezed off the shot. The buck ran about 50 yds before piling up. The buck gross scored at 103 2/8″. He has some unique extra points and a split G1. It was an awesome hunt, the weather was gorgeous and I couldn’t beat the company.

Unit 32, AZ
Craig and his father are in the top photo and Craig is with his beautiful buck in the bottom photo.
Here is what Craig had to say about his hunt:
My Dad and I were hunting together in unit 32 (Arizona) on the November hunt. This buck was taken after several days of hiking many miles in the Galiuro Wilderness area. I spotted this Coues Whitetail buck bedded under the tree in the photograph. I killed him at 234 yards (according to the laser range finder). He never got up from his bed…
A friend of mine who is very knowledgeable on Coues deer and my taxidermist both said the buck should net score at least 95 inches.
Craig Cormier 2005
Dec 7, 2005
Unit 35B, AZ
Craig and his friend Jim Mullins (aka Coosefan) got this excellent 108 inch buck. He glassed it up at over 500 yds. and stalked to within 50 yds. before getting a clear shot to put him down. He passed up a 80″ buck and they found a monster that was actually bigger than the one we killed, but were unable to relocate it.
I had to put in the extra pics of Jim’s toyhauler with the CouesWhitetail.com sticker on it and the buck in front of it! And Jim is wearing the CW.com hat in the top photo. Thanks for the support!! And great buck. Wow.

Dec 05
Andrew Allen and Jay Wyatt
Unit 36C, AZ
Here is what Brian said about their hunts:
Here are some photos of the four bucks we killed in 36c this December. Jay and I hunted a total of 14 days and we passed up over 50 different bucks. As most of you know the weather did not cooperate this year. It was extremely warm and the bucks did not start to rut until the 29th. We looked over several bucks and could not find the one we really wanted but we did manage to kill some pretty good ones.
The first to harvest was my dad (Skip Rimsza). He shot his buck on the 17th at 563 yards. His buck is a nice 3×3 and scores 80 7/8 gross.
Next was Andrew Allen who killed a very unique 3×4 that scores right at 70 gross. He shot his buck on the 21st. I was able to film his shot.
I shot my buck on the 29th. I found him chasing two does and was able to sneak with in 350 yards. He is a large 3×2 that scores 82 7/8 gross.
After several close calls Jay Wyatt shot his buck right at dark on the 29th. He glassed this buck up at 3pm as it changed positions in its bed. He saw the buck at just the right time because when he laid back down all you could see was the tips of his antlers. He was able to sneak to 190 yards while the buck was still bedded. He had to wait and hour and a half before the buck finally stood up. His buck is by far the oldest buck of the group. He is a large 2×2 with busted eye guards. The deer has a huge frame but is lacking the points to go with it. Both eye guards are broke and they are very heavy.
Randy Olson and Josh Olson
Randy got his buck in 2001 in unit 36B. Randy says he has been hunting Coues deer for a long time and this was his first and only Coues. It was killed during the Nov rifle hunt.
The second photo shows his son, Josh with his first coues. It was taken on Nov. 20, 2005 at 7:20 am. He took it in 36B also.

Kristopher McClendon 2005
Oct 2005
Unit 34A, AZ
Here is the hunt story as relayed by Kristopher’s father Kent:
Well, I thought I would share a short story of the success we had on the Oct hunt in 34A. My son (Kristopher) and I glassed up this buck about 1000 yards away opening morning. We guessed him somewhere in the low 80’s and he decided he wanted to go after him. By the time we got over to him he had bedded in a thick area of mesquite trees. We got within about 200 yards of where we thought he was and got ready for him to eventually get up. After waiting about 30 minuets we decided to move a little closer and he jumped up and started to run. I was concerned that my son would have to make an off hand shot with the buck running so I whistled and the buck stopped to take a look, Kristopher must have been on him all along because the instant the buck stopped, he dropped him. Once we got over to the buck I was surprised to find the buck a little bigger that what I thought. Kristopher and I were really excited since it was his first Coues deer. He is entered in the big buck contest for the youth division and cannot wait to see who ends up on top! Not matter if he wins or not he will always have a great memory of his first Coues buck since it will be mounted on his bedroom wall.
Russell Livingston 2005
Nov 13, 2005
Unit 36a, AZ
Russell’s high school buddy, Chuck Martinez, spotted this deer at 10:30am at a distance of 630yards. Russell stalked into 325 yards and waited until 2:30pm to shoot this deer when he stood up. He missed on the first shot and heart punched him on the second shot. This deer was shot three days before the full moon. (moon phase is a subject Russell is interested in).
Russell asks anyone who is interested to e-mail him with day, dates and times of past, present and future Coues Kills or Spottings. He is interested in gathering information on deer activity and moon cycle.
Jessica Nikrasch 2005
Nov 2005
Unit 36A, AZ
This is Jessica’s first coues hunt. The deer was taken in unit 36A on the jr’s hunt. Her buck is a 3×4 plus eyeguards and gross scores 89 7/8 B&C. Her family went with her on the hunt and glassed this buck up a couple days earlier going over a ridge. Her dad, Sean, spent that evening on the other side of the ridge, but could not find the buck before dark.
They went back Nov 26 for an evening hunt. This deer got up 40 minutes before dark. They stalked in and Jessica shot 286 yards and hit the deer behind the ribs. He did not go down. Jessica was excited and shot 2 more times and missed. The buck did not move too much. So Jessica finished him with the fourth and final shot. They ran out of light and found him in the pitch black. Sean had to take photos at the quads because we left the camera there. In the top photo are Jessica, her mother Amy and her brother Sean Jr.

Top photo shows Claudia with her 1st Coues buck and with her in the photo is Richard Anderson.
The picture with the 3 deer shows (left to right) Matt Gehl, Dan Searles, Rick Anderson.
Here is what Richard said about their hunt:
This was the best hunt for Coues we have ever been on. Matt shot his 2nd and biggest Coues and Dan and Claudia got their first Coues bucks.
Dan and Claudia took their first Coues Bucks on this hunt. Dan’s was 376yds and Claudia’s was 377yds. Dan’s opportunity took place on the last evening of the hunt. His dad Jim spotted the buck around 3:30 at 900yds walking onto the sunny side of a mountain. The deer immediately started looking for shade and bedded down. We kept the glasses on the spot where it was and at 5:00 it finally stood up. During that time Jim and Dan moved to within 350yds of where we saw the buck bed. Dan got a shot at the buck as it moved up the hill at 376yds. Claudia’s buck was spotted on the same spot a week earlier. We spotted her buck at 8:00am. Jim and Claudia moved to 375yds and waited until 5:20pm before the buck got up. She took the buck at 377yds.
Matt’s buck was spotted at 4:00pm at 900yds. Matt moved in to 350yds while I kept an eye on where it bedded. At 5:10pm the buck got up and Matt took him at 354yds.
I glassed my buck at 700yds at 4:30 and I moved toward him until I got to 350yds. It was getting dark and he had moved so I set up and started glassing the area where I last saw him. I finally spotted him moving and I took him as he was moving over a ridge.
This group also got a coyote and a coatimundi. You see those photos in the discussion forum.

Paul shot this deer on Nov. 11, 2005 @ 7:15 am (opening morning), at 444 yards with a 300 mag. He was measured at 105 7/8. Pictured in the first photo with Paul is his brother Danny.
Bill Kaul 2005
Nov 2005
Unit 33, Arizona
Bill got this fine buck with the help of his friend Martin Guerena. Read Bill’s hunt story.
The buck grosses about 95 inches. It has a fairly narrow spread (11 inches), but has good mass and tine length. His main beams were about 15 inches long. First circumference measurements about 4 inches. It has a little kicker on the right antler, which you can see in the first photo. Bill is holding his buck in the first two photos, and his friend Martin is with the buck in the last photo.
Jim Mullins 2005
Nov 2005
(aka coosefan)
Unit 36B, Arizona
Here is what Jim wrote about his hunt:
My hunt in 36B was short but a success. I was by myself and tried a different area hoping to get away from the crowds. I didn’t accomplish that but I was able to hike farther in than everyone else and found what I was looking for. At close to 1000 yrds I had two bucks bedded, the one on the left was small and the one on the right had a big frame but I couldn’t make out anything else but he was big enough to check out. I crossed a canyon and eased up over the ridgeline with my 15X56’s only to find out he was just a 2×2. His buddy was a 3×3 but considerably smaller framed. With a frame like his and an awesome stalk and set-up, I wasn’t passing the 2×2 up! I took a couple pictures through the 15’s and then ranged him at 328 yrds. With very little wind and a solid rest I anchored him in his bed with one shot from my .270. His body was huge and packing it all out was very tough but all worth it.
The bottom pic shows the two bucks; the one on the right was the one he shot.

Nov 30, 2005
Unit 34B, Arizona
The first pic shows Jeremy and his father. The bottom pic shows Jeremy’s brother Carl Young (in foreground) with Jeremy.
Here is what Jeremy had to say about his hunt:
After not getting great opportunities the first two days we were beginning to feel anxious. I wanted to hold off as long as I could to get one worthy of being put on the wall. My dad on the other hand could taste blood after being skunked for the last couple of years (he has a problem shooting straight 🙂 ). We finally glassed up 3 small bucks Saturday night and bedded them to find the next day. Bright and early we snuck down where we bedded them the night before. Four bucks got up and I shot the biggest one in the group at about 250 yards with my dad shooting the next biggest closer to 400 yards away. We had two bucks down and back to the truck by 9:30AM. Even though his buck wasn’t the biggest buck ever he sure was emotional over it. A great lesson to learn from: Family, outdoors, and a great story makes this passion of ours what it is.
Dennis and Eric Shipp 2005
Oct 2005
Unit 36A, AZ

Daryl Swain 2005
Oct. 2005
Unit 36B, AZ
Daryl and his brother, and their father had tags this year. Here is what Daryl had to say about their hunt:
We spotted the two bucks walking in our direction but they were well out of rifle range. We got to within about 400 yards and set up. My brother got his buck, a 3×2 from that distance. We saw the buck go down under a bush and as we headed in that direction I told my dad and brother to keep an eye out because we did not see the other deer leave the area. When we were about 200 yards away I saw the other buck standing there by his buddy. I shot twice and saw him drop straight to the ground on my second shot. My buck was a 3×3. My brother got his first deer and it was my second. My dad was with us but he didn’t care as much about harvesting a deer as much as he cared about us getting ours.
