Here is what Shawn wrote about the hunts:
“The hunt started off cold and windy on opening day. We had hiked 6 miles in and the sun had gone down. We spotted a buck bedded down on our way back to the four-wheelers. Michael took a shot and missed. With his second shot, he hit the buck running. It was pitch black by the time we made it to our four-wheelers and eventually back to camp. In the following days, we didn’t have much luck in that area. We spotted four mountain lions and figured it was time to go elsewhere. The second weekend of the hunt, we were successful. The bucks were rutting hard and we ended up getting Casey and my Dad’s deer on that Saturday morning. We decided to go back to that spot on Sunday morning. After glassing for only five minutes, I spotted my deer. Casey and I hiked down a hill to get closer. Casey ranged the buck at 380 yards. I took one shot and the buck went down! For me, this was the hunt of a lifetime. Being with my Dad and my brothers during the hunt we’ve been putting in for the last twelve years and finally getting drawn, will be a memory I’ll never forget.”

Brent only had two days to hunt and took this buck on Sunday. He saw the buck both days, and finally, after watching it in its bed for a half hour, he decided to take the 3×3 buck with a 140 yard shot around 2 pm on the last day he could hunt.
Stan Petersen 2007
2007
here is what Stan had to say about his hunt:
This is my first Coues Deer! I took it on opening day at about 8:30 in the morning. It took me about 3 1/2 hours to get it back to camp, with my pack, binos, scope, rangefinder, water, extra jacket and all the misc. stuff that goes with you. I had to take my pack and rifle ahead 50 or so yards then go back and get the deer. I got to about a 1/4 mile from my truck and went ahead with my pack and rifle then went back and carried the deer the rest of the way. I am 65 years old and thinking about finding a partner to hunt with but all the young kids don’t seem to want to have this much fun. Sometimes I think I am getting to old for this, until I get back to the truck… then I think that wasn’t that bad. I shot it at a range of 365 yards with my Winchester Model 70 .270 with hand loads with 130gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. I have shoot a lot of Deer and Arrowed a few also, but this was one of the most thrilling hunt I have had! This buck scored 95 3/8.

Here is what Dan had to say about this hunt
Here is a picture of the buck I shot this year. I meet up with Jim Reynolds and Jake Peak on the mountain and they got me on this deer. You will never find two better guys than this. Thanks guys. The shot was taken from 300 yards from the prone using packs for the rest. 1 shot from the 7mm stw and the rest is history. He scores about 97. The bottom photo is Cody Sturdevant with his buck. We hunted hard and he shot this buck on Sat .We glassed his buck and 3 others at ¾ of a mile. He shot this buck at 463 yards using a 300 ultra mag. This is his third whitetail in 4 years.

Ruben and his son (also named Ruben) found this fine buck that scored 109 inches! I will see if I can get him to send some pics of the buck from the side so you can see the points better. I think he told me it had 17 inch main beams though. Ruben (the son) told me they had been watching this and other big bucks in the same area for quite awhile.

Patrick Benitez 2007
Nov 9, 2007
Unit 36B, AZ
This is Patrick’s first buck and his Dad is very proud! Here is what his father said about the hunt:
On the first day of the hunt we encountered 3 bucks spotting them over 800 yards away up a long canyon. My brother later had spooked the deer out of the canyon in which the deer headed in our direction. Thinking that they could eventually get in range, I watched how they used the trees to conceal there movement and watched them scan the area before heading into any openings. Once they were in the canyon before me I waited for the deer to appear through the oaks which would put them within 200 yards and trying to keeps the 2 boys still I waited but nothing happened. Thinking the deer stopped in the trees I scanned the area that I last saw them enter and there I spotted a buck watching us intently in the grass lying down and looking at the size of the deer I knew this was an opportunity for my son Patrick who is 12. I ranged the distance at 360 yards and looking through the spotting scope I saw he was quartering towards us. I helped Patrick spot the buck and he soon settled in lying on a good steady rest. I guided him on how to place the bullet as all he could see was the head. I waited watching through the spotting scope and I saw the bullet strike the chest. The deer quickly left my field of view and I went to my binoculars picking up another buck leaving the area and soon saw the buck rolling down the hill. Patrick was confident he hit it as he came up questioning where the buck was and I was proud as ever as my 12 year old had got his first deer.

Matthew Guerena 2007
Nov. 2007
Martin Guerena helped his brother get this buck and here is what he said about the hunt:
I spotted this buck at around 9:30 AM and he was about 2000 yards away. I still have no idea how I saw him. We moved to the next ridgeline to get closer and he bedded in somewhere on the hill. It took us 3 hours to find him when he finally got up and then bedded again under a juniper tree. It was 700 yards across the canyon and too far to shoot from so I asked my brother if he wanted to shoot the buck and you can guess what his reply was. My bro wanted to try to break the 100′ mark and I told him this buck would easily do that. He dropped off the canyon and headed to the same ridge the buck was on and waited for him to get up. At 4:30 PM the buck got up and my brother had a perfect 200 yard shot. The shot was perfect and the buck was down. We were 4 miles from the truck and It was dark. We got home at 1 AM this morning. My back and legs hurt, but it was all worth it to see how happy my brother was. His buck gross scores 109 7/8.

His uncle Goyo Munoz was able to glass the deer in his bed at over 500 yards and they were able to put a stalk on him and get the shot off.

Alex Lopez 2007
November 2007
Unit 35B, AZ
Here is what Alex had to say about his hunt:
This kill happened on Friday November 9, 2007 and it was the firs day of the Coues White Tail November hunt. It happened at around 5:15 P.M. and my brother (Junior) and I were driving in his jeep and we stopped to look at a mountain and it was hard to see with the binoculars because the sun was not hitting that side of the mountain. My brother just looked at the tip of the mountain and saw a buck standing broadside and looking straight down at us. He was between 260-300 yards away. My brother told me, shoot at it it’s a buck, I can tell by the way the silhouette looks and I can see the rack on it. I took some deep breaths and aimed and I got up and told my brother, were do I aim, and he told me to just aim at the top of his upper body. So I got set took a few breaths and shot it. We saw him go down right at the spot. He was trying to get up, but he couldn’t. We stared for a few seconds and after we saw the buck stay down and never moved I jumped and screamed. My brother then tells me that we can come the next morning and look for it. I said no way I’m not leaving my buck over night he is bait for the lions and coyotes I’m going to get my buck. Then he said well fine grab your back pack and your flash light because it will take us a while and it will get dark. Sure enough when we arrived it was dark and the buck was still alive so I shot him again because he was trying to run and was moving further back. My first reaction when I saw the buck was I told my brother it’s small, but at least he has a small rack. He laughed at me and told me are you crazy this is a nice buck just look at him. We then took pictures and then we did not take our knife to gut him. We ended up dragging the buck all the way down the mountain and to where our jeep was. It was tiring, but I didn’t care I had my adrenaline flowing. This is my first kill after hunting for 5 years. This is the best trophy ever. The buck scored 100.4.
My name is Alex Lopez and I live in Nogales, Arizona. My hunt location was 35B and the exact spot was in Washington Camp near Sycamore Canyon. I shot a 30-06 Rifle.
