Where to go this year

Recommended Posts

So now that nobody in my house is drawn and we'll be empty nesters in a few months, it's time to plan my honeymoon that we were too broke for years ago and have been too busy since then. I had everything laid out and ready to buy to go to Hawaii and remembered their stupid 72 hour negative china virus test you have to have.  Not afraid of getting it, just don't want to not have test results in time. I don't like going places where I don't speak the language, so a fishing trip in Alaska is sounding like its going to be the winner.

We are planning to go in August, but don't know the first thing about Alaska. Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as fishing guides, charters, etc.? Not looking to go way out in the ocean to fish. I get sea sick.

I'm also open to other suggestions that aren't Alaska, or even fishing. I've been just about everywhere in the lower 48 and not too much is jumping out at me that would sound as fun as Alaska.

Good choice on Alaska. Should be able to fish for silvers in August coming into rivers and kings in the ocean plus everything else in the ocean. Good time to go. Mid to late July and you should be into some late season red runs.

Other option is adopt me and spend your honeymoon money on upgrading my gear. Hey, can you blame me for trying?

I'm headed up there at the end of July. I'm going to the Kenai for fishing and then to Denali for sightseeing with my family and inlaws. Booked a trip with Jason's Guide Service for a drift boat fishing trip on the Kenai and a couple spots with ProFishnSea out of Seward for Halibut and salmon at sea. Kasiloff River has lots of fish too, but the Kenai River is the big draw there. End of July is Sockeye, as you get closer to the middle of August the Silvers should start coming in thick. Trout and Dolly Varden too of course.

If you want to go to Hawaii, go to Hawaii. I’ve been tested probably 15 times in the last 12 months and the longest I waited for results was probably 42 hours. None were rapid tests.

Agree with this. Alaska is awesome and all but if your first choice was Hawaii, don’t let a Q-tip up the nose be the deciding factor. I had to get tested before going to Alaska in November. Do they not require negative covid tests anymore?

I hear Encanto Park is nice, go at night to beat the heat and maybe see some wildlife up close.

But seriously, AK is the bomb. At least one way there or coming back, book a boat that uses the inside passage. Many have fishing excursions enroute. It's the best way to see the sea faring side of Alaskans

Are you sure your wife wants to go on a fishing trip for her honeymoon?  Go to Hawaii

She would be good either way. She's more concerned with what gifts are chambered in then how many carrots. She always out fishes me too.

One of my coworkers has a wife that work for an Ear, Nose Throat Specialist and I have been tested there. I call her when I am in the parking lot and she comes out, takes Insurance Info to bill them and I spit in a cup. Results are back in 24 hours.

Oahu is nice. Quite a bit to do, very touristy and whether you go parasailing or any of the other tourist attractions they all put you on the spot for tips. Nice to go when it's cooler here to get a brake from the heat. August is the hottest/muggiest month, take lots of sun screen.

OTOH, I like the idea of maybe doing an inside cruise to AK, then a week fishing and fly back. No reason to endure being sea sick. Talk to you doctor and have them write you a scrip for Scopolamine Transdermal Patches. Each one lasts up to 72 hours. It looks like a round band aid about the size of a dime and goes on the neck behind the ear and costs about $25. Whatever you decide have a great time and enjoy.
