willhunt4coues Report post Posted August 12, 2008 Okay I have a silly question. I got drawn for 24A but lets say I want one of the left over tags, can I get one? And can I still hunt in my 24a unit and the other tag in the other unit? I understand I can only kill one deer but can I have multiple tags in different units? I am just wondering I am bored. I killed a deer in January w/my bow and appled for a fall tag so I could gift it to my daughter if she did not draw. I drew the tag and she drew her own. I have to forfeit the tag because I can't kill two deer. You won't commit a violation until you kill multiple deer!

I'll be with my daughter on her first hunt and don't want to jeopardize that. Maybe members on the forum that don't have hunts this year would be willing to take a less fortunate individual hunting. Sounds like a good opportunity to me. Didn't mean to thrash this thread but it came up!!!!!
Red Rabbit Report post Posted August 13, 2008 Clay, You cannot apply for a leftover fall deer tag if you already drew a fall general deer permit. You could draw a spring turkey and apply for fall turkey if you did not kill in the spring. The same goes for a junior hunters with spring and fall javelina. If you kill a deer in January archery hunt, you can apply for deer bonus points. Technically you could apply for general deer after killing and archery deeer in January, but if you draw, this would prevent another hunter from drawing that permit (you could donate the permit to HOAL and hope they can use it, or sign it over to to your minor child. But you can see what might happen if your child also draws.) If you kill a spring turkey, you can apply for bonus points in the fall draw. Look at this from page 100 in the 08-09 printed regs: R12-4-104 L. An applicant shall submit only one valid application per genus of wildlife for any calendar year, except: 1. If the bag limit is one per calendar year, an unsuccessful applicant may re-apply for remaining hunt permit-tags in unfilled hunt areas, as specified in the hunt permit-tag application schedule published annually by the Department. 2. For genera that have multiple draws within a single calendar year, an individual who successfully draws a hunt permit-tag during an earlier season may apply for a later season for the same genus if the individual has not taken the bag limit for that genus during a preceding hunt in the same calendar year. 3. If the bag limit is more than one per calendar year, an individual may apply as specified in the hunt permit- tag application schedule published annually by the Department for remaining hunt permit-tags in unfilled hunt areas. I had everything setup, had the tag, lots of places to hunt in the area, access to the area already paid for, everything. They pretty much stated they weren't intrested. Bummer. So we hunted hard for a day and a half, and came home.

The words "earlier" and "later" refer to earlier or later then what? I assume it's referring to the date of application submittal as being the referance point in time. Let's assume I got drawn for an October deer hunt. One could say I'm going to apply for a November hunt (later season) which would be a valid tag if I do not bag one in my October hunt (earlier season)?????????? Like I said I think they mean earlier then the point in time when the application for the second hunt is being submitted, but they should have that verbiage in the regulations. muskrat Report post Posted August 17, 2008 On a slight hijack, I work with HOAL, and appreciate the suggestions to donate tags. I apologize to those who have had unhappy (PITA) experiences with HOAL. I can look into those, if any of you feel the need. Please keep in mind that sometimes folks offer to donate tags, but we don't have any kids available/in need at the time, and none fore casted. Sometimes we get last-minute kids pop up, and have a hard time getting tags. Sometimes we have a sick kid, and the needed tag, but don't have anyone available to take them out. Sometimes we get a last-minute offer for a tag, and there just isn't enough time to put everything together. Its a juggling act, for sure. As stated, I can't speak to your individual anecdotes, but I don't want to discourage people from considering HOAL as an option, either. http://www.hoalarizona.org/ Marshall MacFarlane
Red Rabbit Report post Posted August 18, 2008 Coueskilla, #2 should be referring to hunts like the spring and fall turkey, buffalo, javelina (since there are youth javelina hunts in the fall).
