.17 Remington loads

Recommended Posts

Got my dies, brass and some lead, waiting for a couple of special order parts for my auto primer, but was wondering if anybody had any loads they would like to share. I know every gun is different, but still kind of nice to hear what has worked for others.

I too am loading for the .17 Remington but as of yet I don’t have a load worked up. These sub calibers for me have created some problems. I recently reloaded for a new to me, CZ 527 Varminter in 204 Ruger. I duplicated the load that had previously shot well in this rifle. The powder was Reloader 10, a short grained cylindrical powder. Trying to get the powder to flow through the 20 caliber funnel was way too much time and trouble. Eventually I got all 100 cases charged. Since I was also planning to reload my 17 Remington for fox and bobcat I knew that cylindrical powders were out of the questions since I had such a difficult time loading for the 204. The sources for my 17 were from the Hodgson reloading magazine and site or from The Sensational Seventeen’s by Todd A. Kindler, available at www.woodchuckden.com. I selected 760 ball powder hoping it would flow easily through the 17 caliber funnel. It did! I loaded just enough cartridges to test for pressure signs. As of yet I have not shot those test loads. Hopefully soon I’ll know the pressure limits for 760 and can the fine tune for accuracy. I wish I had a proven load I could recommend but don’t, hopefully soon. Good Luck
