HEADACHE Report post Posted August 12, 2008 My XD in 45 is the best handling carry gun I have ever shot! Hands down. best way to pick one is go to a gun shop and handle everything under the counter, pick a spot on the wall, close your eyes, pull ithe pistol up and aim it, then open your right eye and see how well it points naturally in your hand, if it is way off, consider a different gun, if it is right on, buy it. kmwellslv Report post Posted August 12, 2008 i as well love my glock 23 but it gets dusty/dirty and requires cleaning everytime i get back, regardless of whether i shot it or not. so i usually carry my ruger gp100 357 mag revovler when rompin through the backcountry and i feel itll serve its pupose just as well and doesnt get as caked up as the semi auto and is quick and easy to clean. elmergoo Report post Posted August 12, 2008 Plus the GP 100 is a double action for any sticky situation. Mine is stainless and the double action came in real handy on a suprise rattlesnake just the other day.

I clean my XD-40 once, MAYBE twice a year... That gun is carried 70 +/- days a year, and shot prolly 400 rounds or so. Has always worked like a dream. Only time I clean it is after 200+ rounds, or if it gets blood on it. It has never ever let me down. Can not speak high enough for them!

GodIsGood Report post Posted August 15, 2008 I've carried all sorts of firearms and revolvers are the only way to go IMO. That one time your semi-auto decides to jam you dont want to be trying to convince a bear [or that toothless fella from Deliverance] not to have you for a snack! I really like my Taurus Judge! I load it with an assortment of cowboy long Colt .45's and 00-buckshot .410 shotgun shells. Those buckshot shells RIP the b'jeapers out of anything in their path, and if you're in low light or high stress - you dont have to be deadnuts accurate. FYI - If Osama gets to be President, the Taurus Judge is first on the DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE list to be banned.
BASS Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Does the rifleings in the judge make the buckshot throw a "doughnut" pattern? I've liked those since the first time I saw the prototype video. If you are dead set on a semiauto, in .40 short & weak ( ) Scottsdale Gun Club has some g22 police trade ins for sale right now for cheaper than a new one; and extra mags are only $10. vegasjeep Report post Posted August 15, 2008 I have a G26 that is usually on me except when hunting. It gets cleaned way less then it needs to be and i carry it 365. I shoot 100-200 rounds a week from it actuallly probably 100 and another 100-200 in my other pistols. I have NEVER had not one bullet jam in this gun. My .40 G23 I throw in the jeep next to my drivers seat along with my Tauras Raging Bull 44MAG. both are excellent guns and both have never let me down. Dont be afraid of a semi auto amming. A good quality gun just does not jam like people make them out to. If it does, eject the round and pull the trigger again. What some people call a "JAM" is really what is referred to as a "stove piping"
BASS Report post Posted August 15, 2008 +1 I've only had rifles (semi-auto) jam on me to the point I had a problem clearing it. With any of my pistols it's always been tap, rack, *bang* and I carry either a g21sf, or a 1911 most of the time, and have never had a problem with any of them either. A47 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 I have a S&W 357 revolver titanium "mountain light" model. i love it , it is super light, just the right size and packs a punch, plus you can use pretty cheap 38 special rounds for practice. i really like revolvers cuz they are simple, no jamming or anything like that. GodIsGood Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Bass wrote: "Does the rifleings in the judge make the buckshot throw a "doughnut" pattern?" Sorry Bass, I have no clue. Just shot the weapon for the first time recently on a scouting mission with my son, and only shot a few random targets like cans and bottles - just TEARS up anything in its path - which is really the idea of defense. I'm told it is called a JUDGE because a sitting circuit court judge designed it for conceal-carry protection in his own court room. Rather than a stacked clip in a semi-auto to stop a homicidal defendant - the Judge wanted an easy-to-carry, hard-to-miss option that could put down an aggressor without the need for careful target acquisition. it's WAY FUN to shoot too! youngbuck Report post Posted August 15, 2008 I usually end up carrying a S&W 638, an aluminum 5 shot 38sp. or a XD45 compact. The smith weighs next to nothing and very easy to carry. I can also cary a round or two of snake shot. Sometimes i carry the XD. Up to 14 rounds of 45acp, or 11 rounds with a shortened grip. I have never had my xd jam, stove pipe, or hiccup. It goes bang every time.
azhuntnut Report post Posted August 15, 2008 I had the chance to go out and shoot my new Taurus titanium the other day. It has to be one of the best shooting revolvers I have ever shot. The porting in the barrel keeps recoil to a minimum. I was able to shoot five rounds at a 1 gallon jug (set at fifteen yards) at a fast back pedal with no problems. I even managed to hit the jug once and hit within 8 inches on the rest. I put 45 rounds through the gun in about five minutes without any hand fatigue.
