TAM Report post Posted August 7, 2008 Hunt4horns, Over the last decade or so the Hispanic vote has become a key ingredient to winning a national political campaign. Right now the majority of the Hispanic voters are more liberal and the Democrats don't want to do anything to loose that trust and confidence. The Republican party has had a difficult time over the years gaining the trust of the Hispanics and other minority groups. The fact is that more Hispanics will vote Democrat than Republican. If either party were to do something catastrophic to stir the pot of the Hispanic voters that party could loose the election. Both partys are walking on egg shells right now when it comes to issues related to Mexico, closing the border, loosing jobs to Mexico, deporting illegal immigrants, and so on. Both sides, especially the Republicans who don't do well with the Hispanic voters are choosing there words very carefully and being very selective on how they discuss these issues. I'm sure there are others like you that see these invasions as a threat that needs to be stopped, but I believe that for every one person like yourself, there are a dozen more that would see it as an attack on Mexico. Exactly... well put! Thats why illegal immigrants can march up and down our streets waving there flag. No one wants to step up except sheriff Joe.
Kilimanjaro Report post Posted August 7, 2008 Nothing was in the article if there was a border barricade that was broached, if any Mexican HumVees supplied by the US were involved, and whether another vehicle(s) likely loaded with drugs continued on. Fence??? Barricade??? There are MILES of border on the rez where there is NOTHING to denote which side of the border you're on.. No fence, barricade, marker, NADA. And this happened in the middle of the night. And it happened within 25 FEET of the line.. I think it truely was a case of "we THINK we're still in Mexico".. The Agent luckily had his GPS on. This was a "peaceful" incursion.. After they found out that they were indeed in the US, they went back without too much incident. My guess would be that they were trying to bluff the Agent out of the area. They were probably guarding some dope they were getting ready to run. Take what Ajohunter said.. 100% true. Whole Indian Villiages have been raided Panch Villa style in the RECENT past by these bastards.. Another one that didn't catch the publc ear was the one east of Deming where three Mex .Humvees were over a MILE on the US side and were popping off .50cal rounds at the BP!! Red Rabbit Report post Posted August 7, 2008 Fence??? Barricade??? Ran out of RR track? Whole Indian Villiages have been raided Panch Villa style in the RECENT past by these bastards.. Shades of Nuevo Laredo and Juarez cartel? Another one that didn't catch the publc ear was the one east of Deming where three Mex .Humvees were over a MILE on the US side and were popping off .50cal rounds at the BP!! RPG counters would be fine IMO
Kilimanjaro Report post Posted August 7, 2008 Dont crucify the messenger Doug.. I know you're educated enough to know that when dealing with ANY Native American Nation, getting anything done is next to immpossible.. Multiply that X 100 with the TO's..X 100000 with ANY issue that deals with the border and/or immigration. Should you have the secret to getting that fence built on the border within the Rez in a timely manner, I'm sure Mr. Chertoff in DC would love to hear from you. Why would they want a fence built on their Rez?? A large metal fence separating them from Mex would impede on their smuggling. And no, I'm not kidding. In the end, it's THIER NATION and they get to decide what happens and what gets put there. Cartels?? Who said anything about a cartel?? No.. This was the Mex millitary. Of course they work with the Cartels (BTW you get the wrong groups), but this was the Mill. doing the raids on the rez, not the Cartels.. Why would the cartels raid a village? They have bigger issues to deal with like killing rival cartels and taking over key routes south of the line.. RPGs??? Again, good luck telling Chertoff that the BP should be equipped with RPGs. But then again as you stated, that's your opinion.
ajohunter Report post Posted August 7, 2008 Yeah its a very sad day when Americans are being attacked in their own homes in the villages on the rez by the Mexican military. And how many are taken by those military units? Countless times USBP vehicles are shot at from both sides of the border endangering Agents lives. Yeah some of those people coming across just want better lives but they are criminals regardless of their intentions.
TAM Report post Posted August 7, 2008 It's not just the Hispanics that politicians are trying not to piss off. There are numerous groups of voters that politations are trying to please. Senior citizens, gun owners, union workers, teachers, blue collar, white collar, women, young voters, just to name a few. The people in charge of the campaings look at every "group" of people possible and then come up with ways to look good and earn there votes. I guess that's why it's called campaining. I love people who are advocates for the illegals, yet they have NO idea how dangerous the poor, help less illegals who want a better life for their familes, and the rest of their country are. az4life Report post Posted August 9, 2008 "republica del norte" is a dream for too many mexicans. Or government has been helping them with the "American Dream" so it won't be long until a new dream is the new mission. Liberals look the other way and conservative politicians are looking out for their careers, not the country.
