AZ402 Report post Posted August 1, 2008 For the second time in under a month I've had a cam ripped of in 19A. Sometime between Tuesday and Thursday afternoon (7-31-08) my cam got jacked! It's not like these are on areas that you can see from the road either! This particular site had a camera near mine, it was gone as well.
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted August 1, 2008 That really sucks!! We have been lucky over there so far, with my buddy's cameras. I am gunna set one this week that will require a lot of tools to steal it! I was over there a while back with another friend and we saw a camera on a tree and it was not locked up... ... I think it snapped a few pics of his face or his butt face.... .... and away we went..... but in todays world those unlocked cams are an invite for the dirt abgs among us.... Hope you catch those guys!
DesertBull Report post Posted August 1, 2008 I refuse to put any camera on water ever again. 99% chance it gets ripped. There are no secret water holes in AZ. I set mine on a trail leading into the water, at least 100 yardrs away. Sure, you miss some animals, but you won't be missing your camera and the pics you do get. AZ402 Report post Posted August 1, 2008 Just once I'd like to catch them coming down the trail with my cam in their hand. Drop a nasty ippon seoinage on them, then let them keep the camera.
GameHauler Report post Posted August 1, 2008 Hate hearing that I have been worried about mine all week. Three guys were headed in towards mine last Sat. as Linnea and I were coming out. I'll find out tomorrow morning.
ajohunter Report post Posted August 1, 2008 Those farging bastages! I would love to set some cams out here in 40A and get pics of the coues over here but I just know someone will liberate my cam from the tree!...
redline410 Report post Posted August 1, 2008 This camera jacking game gets worse every year. Eventually one of these a-holes is going to come face to face with the camera owner in the hills and its going to get ugly. Sorry to hear it broski- Karma is a great equalizer, they'll get theirs someday.........
DesertBull Report post Posted August 2, 2008 FYI- Bass Pro has some smokin deals on Moutries during their big sale coming up. A M60 (6MP with a built in preview screen) for $149. That's a $100 off. D40 for $69. That's $30 off.

crotalus Report post Posted August 2, 2008 Thanx gents, looks like I better brush up on my self defense tactics... Either way I would be very tempted to put the smack down on a loser stealing friggin someone else's property. Only thing I ever stole in the mountains is a nap while glassing... mattobertin Report post Posted August 3, 2008 I have not been using my trailcams lately but would like to start again so hearing all of this makes me pretty leary. My question is how many of you lock your cams to the tree? I know there is still a few ahole carreer criminals that could take the extra time to cut the lock but would make it alot tougher for most of the standard trail cam clepto's. I work with metal for a living so I was thinking about making a few super tough boxes for my cams with the chain actually welded onto the back of the box & securing it with a good master lock. Have any of you had your cams jacked when securely locked to the tree?
MT. CAT Report post Posted August 3, 2008 I hate hearing these stories. Makes me worry about mine that are currently out in the field. I do lock mine up with the kit that stealth cam offers, and I feel safe. I also bring a few screw ins where I can and put it up 10-12 feet and angle it down at the ground. So if someone were to find it they would have no way of getting to it unless they got steps in there pack. I look at it this way. If you leave something behind in camp knowing you'll be back next week and the next camper finds it and keeps this item is it stealing? Don't get me wrong but I would never side with these thieves, they obviously are expressing very poor hunting ethics and sportsmanship. Sometimes you gotta pay to play. Or as I call it PAY AND LEARN. I have never found a cam out in the field in my hunting experiences. But I also place my away from any water holes as a rule of thumb.
coueshunter Report post Posted August 3, 2008 Stan, I am really sorry this crud has happened to you. It bugs me each time I check my cameras to know all the hard work/effort you put in to this can be erased by one uncaring person. Last year somebody messed with one of my cameras but didnt take it. I dont want to spend big bucks on a camera with all this theft going on. Sorry for your problems..........Allen...........
