coyote kills

Recommended Posts

Very good question. I have the same concern. I heard a guy from one of the varmint callers associations offer a creative solution. He was addressing a hunter safety class and, when asked a similar question, said that in addition to harvesting the pelts, they take the meat and donate it to a local wildlife rehabilitation organization who feeds it to the critters they are rehabilitating (birds of prey, bobcats, etc., maybe even other coyotes for all I know.)

That seemed like a good, practical idea. You’d have fewer spoilage/handling concerns since it is not for human consumption. Also, it would ultimately be put to use as opposed to just rotting.

You might want to ask around for more info at one of the varmint callers clubs or check with a few rehab places to see if this is a viable option. Good luck.

Well for one say shoot them and skin them! While the price of the hides in Arizona are not as high as some states we do have more than those states. Coyotes minus the really "junk" will bring you $25.00 and up as a average which in my book isn't too bad, if you take the time to learn how to handle the fur right and sell it right you will do better than the $25.00 almost everytime. I for one ship my fur and find a $37.50 average closer and i live and do most of my calling south of Tucson. So with a little time and effort to learn you can skin a coyote in 15 minutes or less so thats about $100.00 a hour not bad money. After all how many of us make $100.00 a hour doing something we enjoy? Plus the extra money coming in can pay for the gas and extras we buy when we go calling and then with a little luck have some money to buy the wife something nice or take her out to dinner which can go a long ways when we deside to go the next year:)

Who do you sell them to? I would go predator hunting alot more if i could actually sell the fur but have not had any experience with selling pelts.

Shoot them to keep a fear and respect of man in them!

We are not trying to annihilate them. That screws everything up. We realize the importance of them and how they fit in the world. You can try to shoot them all but it won't happen with the sport hunters or fur sellers or casual coyote hunters of today. Many will get away and be a smarter breed and more apt to co exist with the human population today. If you don't try to shoot them all, they will become pests because all the dumb ones will survive, and with no fear or respect for man they will adapt right into your home and kick you out..... figure of speech, you know what I mean.

Look at the Mtn Lions in California. The lion population in AZ is good and healthy. But why don't we see them all the time in AZ? Because they have a fear and respect for man in AZ. And that is healthy for them. They quit hunting them in CA and the next year, only a year, it was a problem. And that was with lions! And now the Goverment has to go around killing tons of problem CA cats because big predators (us and Mtn lions or any other combo) can't coexist that way. One has to be the dominant predator, and the other has to know it, in order for them to coexist in a healthy way. You can be the subdominant predator if you want, but that is not what you are meant to be as a human and you're just going to upset the natural balance of nature.

So if you shoot one and whether you use their pelt or not be glad you were part of natures natural selection The weak, dumb ones will get culled and the smart ones will live on, to pass it on.

That's right. Natural Selection! So many people act like humans are not a part of this world but we have our place in nature just like everything else! We are the Dominant Predator. And as long as all the other animals know that, everyone will live a healthier life.

So try to stack them up when you see them and hope the ones that get away learned a leson. It's best for all that way.

Example:- If a coyote walked up to a griz bear that was feeding on a kill and started feeding next to him, would you think something was wrong with the coyote? YES! That is one stupid coyote and he will be culled out of the population by that griz! If something is wrong with the bear, and the griz bear just ignores the coyote what will happen?

I'll tell you what will happen....- every time that bear makes a kill there will be a huge pack of coyotes there to eat it for him and he will go hungry. That is not natural, and will upset the balance of nature untill the bear dies or he whacks those coyotes and gains a respect from them!

So as the Dominant Predator if you are not putting the fear and respect for man into coyotes you are going against the natural flow and grain of nature! So step up and take your place and they will take theirs and everyone can live happily ever after! ;)
