schmalts Report post Posted July 29, 2008 I drew the december muzz hunt for 35A-B for any deer. I know this is a couse site but I am sure you guys have seen plenty of carp deer out there as well, and that is what I am gunning for. I have spent some time in 34 and know that unit fairly well and would trade some info if you want for coues-muley. I know nothing much about 35 but hunted real close to the edge of the unit near the border around Patagonia. How would you guys hunt with this tag?? just as a coues and mostly spot? If anyone would like to tag along on this hunt and video the hunt, help spot, fend off illegals.... I would love the company down in that area. I will be hunting there between Xmas and new years eve. Would you guys recommend taking a side arm?? How safe would it be to solo camp there? I have not hunted down there in over a decade so things are probably a lot different these days. Feel free to PM me if you wish. Pat

bobbyo Report post Posted July 29, 2008 I know you have your heart set on a Trophy mule, but I believe your tag is an any antlered tag. Don't write off coues all together. I have seen monster whitetail down in the traditional mule deer country. In addition you have a good chance at a whopper, but it is not a easy hunt by any means. You will earn any deer you get. Please post the pictures of you monster when you get him. Good luck, Bob

Good luck, Bob I would smoke a whopper coues, but it would have to be a much better quality deer than the standard of Mulies that I am seeing. If I had to choose between a 105 inch couse and a 170 Muley... Muley for me. Don't get me wrong, I will take a couse but my first choice is a carp deer for personal preference. As far as posting a picture, I will for sure as it will be one I am proude of since it will be my first Muzz buck. But I am going to at least try and use my best judging skills and take a good deer or nothing. Is it un-realistic to set my goal at a 170"+ buck down there?? Like I said, I have not hunted the border area for well over a decade now and have no clue how much has changed with animals.
Snapshot Report post Posted July 29, 2008 It is not unrealistic, especially during the rut. All the southern units have some big mulies.
