vegasjeep Report post Posted July 29, 2008 this is a true story....... We were in 36b scouting before hunting season three years ago. We were on the top of a hill and we could see three canyons over. It was one of those days where we hiked alot to get up there and i had packed a lunch to sit and relax. Well about 9am i had seen this figure crest a hill and he disappeared down in the canyon about 2 canyons over. Well around noon-1 oclock he had crested the ridge in front of us and we started watching him. This ridge was across the flats about 800 yards as the crow flies away then was a tall ridge. Well we watched him for about 20-30 minutes work his way down the ridge. He attracted our attention as he had shorts, t shirt and a pretty hefty full back pack on. Along with a rifle... no hunting rifle but an AR or something like that. Well all of a sudden he had looked up our direction and took off running. I kid you not this guy took off running across the flats and up the next ridge and over the top. As the crow flies maybe 1000 yards to the base of the mtn ridge and he ran up and over it without stopping, slowing down or ANYTHING. We were amazed. I am quite sure he was not a hunter and wonder what he had in the back pack but it was quite interesting. now illegals.... I have seen literally thousands of them littering idiots. ichiban43 Report post Posted July 30, 2008 Pot farms are a huge problem all over the West--maybe the East--I don't know. They are in CA,OR,WA.ID and MT in fairly large #'s. They have become very sophisticated and are harder and harder to detect. It is a very valuable crop and people will kill to protect them. Nobody seems to have any answers--at least ones that really work. Cut out the profit and the big growers and smuggling cartels will go away. The only way to do that is some form of legalization and I'm not sure we are prepared for that either. In short--maybe no good answers save for raising a drug free generation. NRS Report post Posted July 31, 2008 They had to add extra security to some of the big fires in California because the pot farmers were shooting at the firefighters trying to put the fires out. Law enforcement over there has also been busy raiding 2-3 big pot farms a week and getting anywhere from 15,000-20,000 plants at a time. When they catch the farmers they are illegals working for the big drug cartels.

GHOSTLUVR Report post Posted July 31, 2008 Its a shame that hunters are not more educated for safety sake! During the 2006 summer, the Gila County Narcotics Task force out of Payson erradicated 24 gardens. These were located in Gila County alone. Most common places were, Mazatzal wilderness, Boulder Mt. and Cherry Creek. Towards the end of the summer, one of the gardens located in Deer Creek resulted in a law enforcement envolved shooting. All grows eradicated that summer were linked to Mexican nationals with ties to violent gangs. Things to look for: Common black polly hose used for irrigation, fertilyzer bags, abandoned camps (usually trashed) and plants themselves. These grows are usually located around small springs (not many on main waterways anymore.) The gardens are usually tended to 24/7 by two to four individuals. They are usually armed, but luckily mostly with pellet guns. If you locate anything unusual, contact the Task Force at (928)474-0728.
Rembrant Report post Posted July 31, 2008 Legalization will only legitimize the profit - not make it go away. And then, because "it's leagal", it will stupify even more of our young people into liberalism. Mike
