Wisconsin?

Recommended Posts

I know we have members here from WI. I'm curious about the game laws, tag procurement etc...

The ol lady's business may be bought out by a company hq'd in Middleton, WI. and she may be headed there...

No personal experience there but friends have family there and have gone there to hunt. Sounds like the tag and license process is straight-forward, but not much public land at least where they were hunting.

edit- and by “there” I mean Wisconsin and not specifically Middleton.

From what I can keep up with not being there every year, but having many relatives and friends in all parts of the state.

Hard to find public land that doesn't have a tree stand on it (a lot of Mung population hunting the public land). The northern deer herds have been beat up pretty badly due to the wolf issues and probably a few other issues as well. The central farm land herds are still doing well, but most if not all private woods.  The big county for deer is out west (Buffalo) is high $ lease land and it too seems to have taken a bit of a step down lately.  If you can get with a farmer (or is daughter...) to hunt some of his farm land, I would say that is your best bet.  Seasons and tags are easy, great digital set up for tracking information, registration etc.  The game wardens are hard core too compared to Az.  I have literally been pulled out of a stand a mile from the closest road hours after I was dropped off (no truck parked even for a warden to know I was there) for a license check.  Lots of stories about them crawling through fields in the snow up hill both ways catching up to someone etc.

Haha, sounds like some of the episodes from 'Northwoods Law's or whatever it's called.

We have a close friend with a huge dairy farm with deer hunting and bears o plenty. He'll be here soon for the winter. I guess I need to pay more attention to where his farm is

I heard the ol ladys company was for sale recently but the board is actually entertaining bids. I was caught off guard last night, asked if I'd like to move to WI.

Short answer, 'no.' too much logistics, too many horses to sell or move, my mom is losing her fight with cancer...lots of reasons to stay right here.

Apart from that, I love a new adventure but man, I love Arizona more.

Most farm lands have plenty of deer tags. Cheap for residents.  Bear tags are like early rifle elk tags in Az. They. do have an elk season but I thk 10 tags in n/w of state. Thk there is a wolf season now too.

I hunt non resident deer. 160 your first season is 1/2 price.

Lots of turkey .

I love hunting  and the  fishing is fantastic. But I will live in Az.

Did I say fishing is fantastic!

Oh yeah. They even have a family plan for fishing. Even charter / guides for musky or the great lakes are reasonable. Helps when you have family or freinds with like interests.

Forgot to mention waterfowl hunting . Big oops  !!!  outstanding opportunities!!
