HEADACHE Report post Posted July 26, 2008 Went shed hunting today, picked up three dink5 pointers, one was a freak of nature, anyway I stumbled onto this doe who sort of walked off looking all nervous .. . . I looked around where she was bedded and three feet away I found two little fawns! Must not be one day old! they just layed there not even flinching while I pet them for a little bit and snapped a few quick cell pix and a few videos. . . here is the only one my phone would upload to a site to share. http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/7/20/1281826/fawn.mov

bearbait Report post Posted July 26, 2008 Thats cool. Looks like a mule deer. Is it ok to pet them? Mama wont act weird towards them cause they smell like a human... I know with touching baby birds and the mama wont take them back is supposed to be an old wives tale...so I would assume it would be the same with bigger animals. The mother still know that they are hers and will still tend to them.
Guest 300ultramag. Report post Posted July 26, 2008 nope theyll be alright... when a sow gets a c.o.y hurt and it needs human interaction to assist in the development of the cub the mama bear always takes them back regardless of time or human contact ive seen a sow take to her cub after 6 weeks of seperation and when they released them into the wild the sow ran off.... after 5 min. she came back and made sure the cub was following. AZantlerhead Report post Posted July 27, 2008 Cool! My dad and I once got to be that close to a spotted calf elk. As it spooked and ran, mother no where in sight we said. " wolf bait". glad you did notice the doe around. I'm sure it was re-located when you left . Don't know what became of the baby calf though Hope it ran in the direction it last saw mama. HEADACHE Report post Posted August 4, 2008 ya I saw the mother spook off, and I kept my eye on her for about ten minutes or so, I circled around her and softly pushed her back towards her youngans. I was very respectful and only stayed with them for a few minutes.
