AzHunt Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Hey everyone, I need your opinions on which spotting scope window mounts are worth buying. Never had one before but I want to get one, so let me know what is junk and what is worth buying. Thanks in advance!!
Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Mine is a Tasco that I bought 10 years ago. The base and clamp are metal, with only the handle and screw knobs being plastic. I rarely use it. Mostly find it more conveient to have the 15X or spotter on a tripod for when the critter is not directly out the driver's window.
TLH Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Mine is a Bushnell but i think i saw one at the AAF banquet that was made by Vortex and it looked pretty darned good--i may even get one. I use the window mounts when i am scouting for antelope and that is about it.

Benbrown Report post Posted July 24, 2008 I have used Bushnells, Cabelas and Pentax units in the past and gave them all away. I have been using my present mount, a Swarovski, for almost ten years and it works well with both my spotting scope and large Nikon digital SLR with telephoto lenses. It is all-metal with full rubber pads where it contacts the window, and the head is mounted on a ball and socket swivel. Now that I am retired, I don't use it as much as I used to, but it made a trip to Namibia with me a couple of years ago and I used it all day every day for the time that we were in Etosha National Park. Don't know if they still sell this one any more, but if you can find one, they are worth the money.
JIM WHITE Report post Posted July 25, 2008 Hello AZHUNT: I carry (2) types of window mounts, both are good and should be plenty sturdy for bino(s) or a spotting scope. 1.) is the Vortex that someone saw at the AAF banquet,if fact that one of my donations. 2.) is the "Swarovski" unit that Ben Brown has, which is actually a Bogen product with the Swarovski lable on it. that unit comes as just the clamp part and you can use any tripod head on it you want. Give me a call and I can fill you in on these items. Thanks, Take Care Jim White 928-635-5316
