firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 I am guessing that snake is in the radius I have around my house that gives them lead poisoning, any rattlesnake within that radius usually dies of that if I see them. http://www.reptilesofaz.com/Snakes-Subpage...c-molossus.html Casey is that snake big enough for a hat band for you, and for the record you can shoot one of those in the head on purpose. He's big enough for a hat band, but not a belt! And yeah, my XD seems to track to the head on its own... iffin its snakes, or jack rabbits!

azpackhorse Report post Posted July 23, 2008 Definately a Blacktail. I've never seen a Massasauga in the wild but I believe they are mostly in the very South East corner of the state and rare, they are protected.

mr.smith Report post Posted July 27, 2008 Did you know that there is an annual bag limit of four (aggregate) rattlesnakes? And several of our AZ species are protected. http://www.azgfd.gov/pdfs/h_f/regulations/...Regulations.pdf (page 8) It's wasteful, unethical, and irresponsible to kill a snake just because it is a snake. Without them we would all get hantavirus or plague and die.

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted July 27, 2008 If I'm out scouting and they show aggression towards me is the only time I hammer them. If they slither away, I call it good. After saying that, I have only had a "bad" run in with one.
Huntn coues Report post Posted July 27, 2008 We all took a ride a few months back and whacked 4 of em and yes we ate them! As far as a bleeding heart for them I am not! Get anywhere close to my family and that's all it takes !
mr.smith Report post Posted July 27, 2008 "If they get too close..." Generally it isn't them getting close to you or your family, it is you getting close to them and not knowing it until they warn you.
Huntn coues Report post Posted July 27, 2008 "If they get too close..." Generally it isn't them getting close to you or your family, it is you getting close to them and not knowing it until they warn you. Negative ghost rider. Had a sidewinder come hauling butt right at me from behind. I was changing out the hitch on my truck when one of my girls yelled snake. He was only 4' from me and was scootin right at me. I made it into the bed of my truck where the girls already were in one leap. The only dilema was my wife was in the garage (door open)and that dang snake was not to happy with her at this point. So yada yada yada................. He was a very aggressvive crotalus cerastus. He never rattled once. Moral of the story- not all snakes "WARN YOU"
