COOSEFAN Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Great Job!!! - Team Mullins- I thoroughly enjoyed the drama today and it was very well worth the wait! I was wondering with all of the scouting & time available, with effort would he have been able to put carbon into that Bull intead of lead? Was there ever an opportunity to arrow him? I know that bulls don't get that big by being easliy fooled.. Just something that ran through my head today while reading these post(s). Fantastic majestic Beast! AzP&Y Doug Thanks Doug, and yeah it was possible to hunt him with a bow but would have required way too much luck and we decided not to. Clark did have his bow with him on most days and can shoot really well. We had several bulls picked out that were going to be archery bulls, they weren't as big as this guy, but we knew we could get them on the last couple days. The main factor in not using the bow was that the elk in this area are starting to rub and they tend to make big moves at this time and then will move again right before the rut. We didn't want to lose another chance at this bull or our original plan A bull so Clark chose to use the rifle. On a side note, I have heard some folks question why we shot a bull this early and the thing they need to learn is that the bigger bulls finish out earlier than the smaller bulls. These bigger bulls are starting to rub right now and the bull we killed is dried up and pretty much done growing so we had no reservations in shooting him that day! Also, thanks for all your comments and reply's everyone! JIM>

COOSEFAN Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Very nice!! Jim, did the bull have that extra browtine last year? Thanks again everyone! Stan, we are pretty sure we never saw this bull last year so I don't know. I am starting to think that we are all thinking about two different bulls that we are all calling by the same name.....if that makes any sense? Both are very similar, but the one that is still alive doesn't have an extra this year and is in a totally different area.
COOSEFAN Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Velvet or not that bull has fantastic mass! As said earlier " GRUNT " All I can say is Team Mullins is the schiznicky! I wish there was a way to illustrate how massive that bull is because none of those pic's do it justice! Wait till more people put their hands on it and see what they say about it! I have heard that you can deduct 3% from the score to get an idea what it would be without velvet? I did that up there and came up with over 73" of mass without velvet if that calculation is correct! So, velvet or not, that is insane, it takes a big bull just to hit 60"!!! I think the best way to get an idea of this bull's mass is to look at your own hand and compare it to these photos......my bro doesn't have small hands! Isn't that just crazy! firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 heck, if I was the hunter, I would have ZERO reserves about shooting a giant bull like that in velvet... How many people can say they have a 420" +/- velvet bull on there wall killed in Arizona LEGALLY?! about 3. Awesome! PLEASE tell me hes not going to have the velvet stripped on the mount... Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Jim, I guess when you said you had to babysit, you really weren't bass fishing Those brow and bez tines are certainly impressive show stoppers. The pic of Matt's hand on the base gives jaw-dropping perspective. Doug~RR
Coues Sniper Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Un-freaking-real. And he let it walk the first time??? That borders on lunacy. Congratulations Mullins Outfitters. Enjoy this one. He's one in a million, and you guys earned him for sure. And also, I take back all the crap I gave you before the pics were posted
Schmitty Report post Posted July 24, 2008 What a monster, who's got it all; length, mass and symmetry. Truly an incredible bull! Now that you've got some free time on your hands you guys can head south down to 8 and find something similar for me! (I'm all packed up to head up there tomorrow for my 4th scouting trip, If I saw a bull even close to that toad I don't think I'd be able to come home) Once again congratulations to all involved. I'll actually agree with Casey on this one and I think the bull should be mounted in velvet. What is the actual process with a velvet bull? I imagine the velvet needs to be stripped down in order to be officially scored. I know there is reproduction velvet, but my understanding is that typically the velvet is "tanned" or preserved on the antler or freeze dried. How's it going to work out with this bull? Just curious. What a big son of a gun! Abslolutely awesome! A big congrats. Schmitty
