Beaton Report post Posted September 25, 2020 16 minutes ago, muledeerarea33? said: Is the hunt still going tomorrow? The hunt was over today we would have sat water in the evening but he had a college exam in the evening. What happened just happened its public land we just ran into an unethical hunter at the wrong time.
Swivelhead Report post Posted September 25, 2020 10 hours ago, Beaton said: Well got on a really big bull this morning. Dropped my son off at 4am and hiked back in to where we knew they went everyday. Im back glassing from far away and it barely gets to where I can see and there they are. Then a guy in a grey dodge pulls up behind me and I wave him off. He stops and glasses the elk. Then he pulls up and says to me thats a giant and I said yes he is and my son is set up on him back there. He say ok and I continue to glass and he drives off. Then the elk spook 15 minutes later so im waiting for my son. And he comes out and says the elk were 120yd walking right to me and I was gonna have a good shot at the big bull and then o heard someone cow calling and they spooked. That guy drove 200. Yds from the elk in his truck and cow called and blew them out. My son was furious. I went and told him how I felt about it considering I told him my son was in there. He said nothing back to me. That was ridiculous! I've had similar experiences at the tail end of the early archery hunt. Hunters that have the early rifle or muzzlerloader elk hunt that opens tomorrow are out scouting with abandon. It's one thing if someone scouting for an upcoming season innocently interrupts a stalk. No excuse for this man's actions, he knew your son was on the elk. Selfish SOB.

Hate em. I'm getting a cow tag next year so I can get revenge. Followed them all around the mountain as they were fighting and screaming. The bull i really wanted should be safe the rest of the year. He broke off two thirds of his right side, but he won the fight this time. During all of this I re aggravated my left hip. Had trouble just getting back to the truck. Hunts over for me. Good luck to everyone still trying to close the deal today. Just wanted to do my part to help out with those annoying cows.

rossislider Report post Posted September 29, 2020 I've been up bouncing back and forth helping a few different hunters in units 3B, 3A, and 3C over the past few weeks. As far as rut activity, it has been pretty terrible. I looked at a lot of bulls, none quite so eager for love as this youngster who I inadvertently (at first) drew in on a string from 500 yards across a steep canyon. I was initially just trying to draw him out of his tree cover to get a look at him, but after 20 minutes of back and forth bugling without him budging, I gave one chirp on the cow call, and he was on a mission. Since he was coming, and wasn't going to make our hit list, I decided to have some fun.
trphyhntr Report post Posted September 29, 2020 Just got back from 3b. Easily the worst hunting I’ve seen in 25 years there. And no other year even comes close to how bad it is that I’m aware of. Praying for the dudes that I was hunting with cuz they were super cool.
rossislider Report post Posted September 29, 2020 Here was another guy who didn't make our list. He responded to my bugle about a quarter mile out so I snuck into about 100 yards and challenged him (he had cows) and he came the rest of way.
