bowhunter-tw Report post Posted August 26, 2020 I will get some brass 0000 wool and give it a go, wool with oil applied? Or dry wool then apply oil after?
PRDATR Report post Posted August 26, 2020 Use bronze wool and an oil like ATF or Kroil. You can even use WD40. Blueing is just controlled rust.
bowhunter-tw Report post Posted August 27, 2020 Have another question. I think I might replace the butt pad, the one that is on it seems dry and very hard, it is the original marlin one. Do you guys have any suggestions as to butt pads to look at? I would prefer to do little to no shaping and would like to stick with a brown pad.
Arizona Griz Report post Posted August 27, 2020 If it was me I would leave the butt plate/pad alone. I did not see the caliber but if you worried about the kick then maybe try a short slip on pad.

Jlreff Report post Posted August 29, 2020 Always use oil with the wool. Brass 0000 wool is better then the steel in the same grade if you can find it. Pachmyer makes a good replacement pad. I myself have used there declerator pad for years now.
