DesertBull Report post Posted June 13, 2008 Foreign oil companies are exploring for oil right off our coast, but US companies are forbidden to do it by US law. When are we going to stop this madness? "It is our understanding that, although Cuba has leased out exploration blocks 60 miles off the coast of southern Florida, which is closer than American firms are allowed to operate in that area, no Chinese firm is drilling there," according to the statement. Cuba clearly is interested in developing its deep-water oil resources, estimated at more than 5 billion barrel, including areas within 60 miles of Key West, Fla., energy experts said. Jorge Pinon, a senior energy fellow at the University of Miami specializing in Latin America, said Cuba has awarded offshore oil leases, or concessionary blocs, in its offshore waters to six oil companies — none of them Chinese — and soon may announce an agreement with Brazil's state oil company, Petrobras. mattys281 Report post Posted June 16, 2008 Be realistic guys, they can't allow a U.S. owned firm to be responsible for bringing the cost of an essential energy source down to a reasonable price. How are we supposed to have a recession if all of a sudden the market is flooded w/ affordable domestic oil?! Next thing you know people will be taveling, going on vacations, spending money in other states & stimulating their local economies, etc...

Barbera Boxer says she wants to drill in the US, just not in her state. Can't blame her. That's the same way I feel about mining. It's necessary, everyone knows it, I just wish it was isolated to Texas instead of being all over my moutains in Az.
