DesertBull Report post Posted June 11, 2008 The economy is not devastated. We are not even in a recession. Is money tight, yes, but the economy is still growing, despite what Keith Olberman and Nancy Pelosi want you to believe. I work in the engineering/construction field and work is coming in at a very good pace. I am not 100% positive but I am pretty sure we are in a recession. It takes 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth to be in a recession. We have not even had one yet.
ichiban43 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 The nation itself is NOT in a recession--if you go by the numbers, but I have read that some areas of the country are--including AZ. From my perspective--gas prices are going to hurt some people when it comes to applying for multiple hunts. My yearly trip to CO is probably going to run $800 + or - just in gas. I had a 12a Turkey tag and the wife had taken vacation time to go up to Jacob Lake with me. We have a motorhome and she just loves to "camp". But she likes the amenities too--so we stay in camgrounds with full hook-ups. This years trip from here in AJ was going to run about $800 in diesel alone. We went up to Page Springs for 10 days and I scouted a little for my Muzzy cow Elk hunt. So--at least for me--it isn't tag cost that are the bummer--it is fuel prices. Huntn coues Report post Posted June 13, 2008 Just got off the phone with azgfd and got some preliminary numbers for this year. They recieved 66,700 (and change) total applications for this year including all big game for the year.(elk and ant. included) Now they have a number that they use to average the total amount of people per app and they are coming up with 99,000 and change for this year but will not have an exact number untill they get all the info put in the draw process. Last year they had 107,000 (and change) total people. With those numbers and the possibility of multiple apps with bonus points only it could be a good year for those who put in. ac guy Report post Posted June 14, 2008 That's a 7% drop, and a good possibility that the sheep and buffalo tags dropped more than the cheaper deer tags. Nice stats HNC
COOSEFAN Report post Posted June 14, 2008 Musta been our devastated economy that caused the decline! Jus kiddin'. Great job gettin that info Troy.....I am curious what the totals will be once the bonus point apps are picked out.......I would still bet that there are more bonus point apps for Sheep and Buffalo this year than any other The one good thing I see with all this is that it forced out the folks who would normally apply their non-hunting friends, and their grandmothers.....'cause it only cost them a few bucks for the chance. When somebody draws a Sheep tag now.....it will most likely be a serious hunter that knows the value of the tag! I do feel bad for the folks out there with kids, thats the one major drawback I see with having the money upfront, that's gotta be very hard to cover that expense in this day and age.
