Recommended Posts

Well, here we go again. Its 7:55 on June 10th so its all over as far as how many applications are going in for 08.Just curious on anyones opinion(we all got em),as to just paper apps this fall.Does it make any difference on how many out of state hunters apply and by getting the money up front does it have any impact on how many apply?

There was another thread on this topic recently but as far as out of state hunters it does reduce them a little because

they have to put the license fee up front with no refund if not drawn. IMO

As far as paper vs online the numbers stay about the same year in and year out.

I think it makes an impact needing the money up front. It leaves only the guys with money in the game and kicks the rest out, regardless of residency. As far as seeing a noticeable difference in draw odds, I think the devastated economy this year will be what makes a noticeable impact. LOTS of people just applied for the bonus point for Sheep.....still like winning the lottery, but it's gonna be a better chance at winning that lottery this year!

I will have to disagree with ya on this one. I will get the numbers for us and post em in the next day or so.

I use to think the samething but after talking with some people in the draw department they gave me the

overall numbers of the total people that applied over the last few years and regardless of paper or

online they were within a nats a$$ of each other.

I do think that the economy will have a impact on the draw this year as well especially Bighorn.

The online process helps those that make mistakes on the paper apps., helps the ones who can't front money for several species, and helps Cabelas get their Apps. in on time without the use of a leer jet, and keeps a few of their employees from calling the AZGFD to stay late and just keep it between them. Other than that I think it will always be similar in numbers.

It's certainly not as convenient as some other states, but I'm all for it. The draw process is a LOTTERY- you can't buy lottery tickets at Circle K with a credit card, why should we be able to buy THESE lottery tickets with a CC? Buffalo has certainly got a whole lot easier to draw and probably sheep! I suspect it hasn't hurt the deer hunting apps too much. I would be in favor of trophy hunts with trophy prices-like several other states, but this commission has an agenda that etched in granite and it isn't happening any time soon! I hope they never go back to the online system personally!

Troy and Jim, you both bring up good points. I do know hunters who don't have the money but will transfer money from a credit card to pay up front and then I know hunters who depend on Dad to fork the money over until the draw is over. If not drawn then the money goes back on the credit card and sweet old Dad gets his as well, with not much out of pocket expense to the not so lucky hunter. Those who trully want to hunt will find away no matter what.

Good luck to everyone on the draw no matter how hard I pray you don't take my sheep tag. With the help of a VoooDooo Witch Doctor I put a curse on all sheep hunters applying for 24B west. :P ;)

Last I heard the online process will be back at the end of this year, or the beginning of next.

I don't doubt the numbers are close, I remember when we talked about this before. I just know alot of folks who just applied for bonus ponts because of the upfront cost and it makes me think it has to cause a decline in apps.....but like TJ said, most folks will find a way.........I know I had to

The economy is not devastated. We are not even in a recession. Is money tight, yes, but the economy is still growing, despite what Keith Olberman and Nancy Pelosi want you to believe.

I work in the engineering/construction field and work is coming in at a very good pace.

If they apply for a bonus point, do they still count the app. deer bonus point = deer app., no change in the number, but it would help in draw odds. Same for the rest of the species.

Well, I used too strong of words there I guess, but what I'm talking about is how tight money is right now and how tight folks are hanging on to it.

Is nice to see all the responses,I guesss I started this because I really do wonder if it makes a difference,I might be old fashioned but I have been putting in for years(16 bonus pts for antelope,15 for sheep) and I would have to say my personal preference is the paper apps.,good luck to all who applied,if anyone knows the real numbers over the last couple of yrs am curious to see how close they are with or without the online drawings,oh ,by the way the 23 in deserthunter23 is just a lucky number, will be 54 this summer

I am not 100% positive but I am pretty sure we are in a recession.
