RIP UP THOSE AZG&F SURVEY CARDS!!!!

Recommended Posts

I guess the groups that support the game and fish projects and various habitat projects are no longer needed by the department and the department can now pay contractors to do the work, or just not do the work and watch certain areas lose holding capacities for wildlife. The money from tag funds is used by the department and the department isn't charged one cent for the publicity to sale these tags, or the effort involved to get the most from the tags. I guess the department could just put the tags on ebay and sell them that way and who gives a dang, then they can put it in the habitat coffers at the department and use it when they hire people to do the work for them, or they can allow the governor and the legislature to take that money since the department will no longer use it and the governor can spend it on one of her worthwhile projects, she might even find a way to use that money to support a few more wolves or condors, or help close some roads, or just give it to the humane society to show that the governor really, really cares about animals.

The politics in the game and fish department and the state of AZ isn't something to ignore, and if it wasn't for groups like the ADA, AES, ADBSS, ABA and the other groups out there hunters wouldn't ignore issues at all, they just wouldn't know about them.

Tony when you wrote those articles complaining about issues with the department, what happened, did you maybe get a commissioner to change their mind just from your article, probably not, did you inspire any hunters to show up at a commission meeting to be heard, probably not, the people that are at these meetings on a regular basis are hunters and most are involved with one group or another, and over the last few years the commission has treated some like crap.

The survey that the ADA is involved in with the AZGFD is toward the end of the process, the ADA just asked the department to wait on the results of the survey before they allotted doe tags. It seems strange to me to kill the does when you are in the process of a scientific study, will it skew the results, to me it will, the numbers they are dealing with at the start is being changed by man during the process, and it is different than what they allowed previous years, the doe permit numbers should have stayed the same. Of course I was told that 300 does killed would have little or no effect on the results of the study.

Tony,

From your responses one must ask what agenda you have?

I know you can't resist--come on, respond--you are the kind that can't stand not having the last word. ;)

;) I'm with you! g-f understands that if they give true numbers then it will show how bad our herd numbers are and then they would not be able to push there " EXTRA 10,000 hunters into the field at $42.50 = 42.5k extra income! " We the Paying customers are on the side of wildlife and are wanting true facts of our herd numbers. that is why we want mandatory reporting of all big game. G-f, I think does not respect nor understand how much time and effort our az hunting clubs do for our wildlife! Without us the membership of aba, ada, asa, rmlf, wta, yuma club, desert christian archers and many more . I wonder what az hunting would look like :( . You would think when our leaders of the clubs go infront of the comish  they would understand they are representing the state of az as a whole for their paying custumers. instead of disrespecting them in front of everybody. mike

See there. We already had plenty of opportunity. You just have to know where to look for it.

I definetly agree with Terry on this one. The only thing I wanted to add is that there are a few on the commission that are trying to do the right thing and I hate to lump all of them into the bad guy pile.

Matthew,

You are correct--they are not all bad apples and for the most part they do a good job as a group. I think with the new director and the new blood on the commission things may get better--one can only hope and i have always been a half full kind of person.

get a degree, then come talk to me.

everyone on this site knows who the person is that thinks they 1) own and shoot the best and most accurate guns, 2) owns and drives the best truck, 3) owns and uses the best optics, etc, etc, etc. additionally, it is obvious this person is not shy about telling people that their things are inferior to his and hijacking their threads for his own selfish, egotistical purposes.

Survey cards to jealousy......? Are you mad that you ain't got one or are you just mad??? No tags this year? Shoulda filled out the survey card. All out there, that bit##, whine and complain about not getting tags or about the survey cards or about the G&F and how lousy of game management they conduct, are their worst enemies. Come on guys, how hard is it really? Grab a pen, check a few boxes, get your butt off the couch or your loading bench (which I have no clue why you are there, you didn't get a tag anyway), walk outside and put it in the F'n mailbox. The postage is prepiad, it IS that simple. I do my part to help the G&F by sending in the survey and give them accurate numbers. And those who feel that the cards do not work and don't fill'em out, YOU slice your own throats, and yet YOU cry that the G&F has again, screwed up the units. All the talk about the Commission, and how us hunters need to stick by each other, go to the meetings, let us be heard....blah blah blah. Game management will not change over night, it will take time and the survey cards WILL help if filled out honestly. <_<

my $.02

Jeremy,

I disagree--survey cards as they are today will not help and will not work. The WM's in most units do a damned good job of wildlife management but those that are true WM's are getting fewer and farther between. I spoke with a WM that i think is one f the best and he told me that he presented his studies in his unit to the upper management boys and he also gave them his number for permits--they said to him that he doesn't know what he is talking about and they would be giving out "x" amount of tags (twice as many as his recommendation)

You need to go and speak to some of the older guys that are in the field and you will find that they all want to retire because all the work they do is being swapped for money.

I do fill my cards out every year because i am that kind of a person--i still have faith in our game and fish and feel that they need to have a stronger management to back them up and to control the commission a little better.

I guess the only way to really know about the department and the disconnect between their WM's and the supervisors is to take a ride with a few of them and listen to their message.

I too believe there are some....some good WM's out there. And I too have faith in the G&F and do hope they come to their senses and listen to the WM's. Sure, you may not think the surveys would work, and thats fine, but as long as you fill them out....."honestly". Mandatory reporting on everything? Sure, why not give it a shot. Never hurts to try something out.

I know the Navajo Nation requires that the survey be turned in, and if not, you are unable to apply for the hunt the following year.

I already explained the reason for the mandatory archery reports. Did you read it?

. -TONY

Tony, I don't mean this in a derogatory way, but I have to admit that, because you post so much, even answering your own posts before someone else even has a chance to respond, because you know it all, and always have to have the last word, I just scroll past your posts in the thread. I just don't have time to read all of your "knowledge".
