jamaro Report post Posted June 3, 2008 What about Nick Diaz? He left the UFC for the EliteXC and then proceeded to smash his face into his opponents fists/knees so many times it ripped a nasty gash the size of the grand canyon above his eye and the doc had to call the fight. Then like the crybaby he is he gave double fingers to the crowd and ran out of the arena crying like a little girl. Sorry I can't remember the other guys name but it was for the new title of that division. I'm really not a fan of either of the Diaz brothers but this one's really got me puzzled??? Why would a pretty solid fighter in the UFC leave for the EliteXC? No surprise that a true 145 pounder like Pulver would go to the WEC so he could fight his true weight class, but Diaz bailing out for the EliteXC doesn't make any sense at all. Probably had something to do with money, but I'm sure all that back fired on him when he lost the title fight. Hopefully Joe Silva and Dana White tell him where the little bear pooped in the forest when he comes begging for his contract back. AMEN to Lesnar vs Slice!!!!! Tim... Didn't Diaz get busted for drugs???? J
mikep35 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 Nick Diaz won the lightweight belt in Pride and then got stripped because he tested positive for weed. Him and his brother both are notorious potheads. The only reason I can see going to Elite xc is because none of the real fight organizations will take him. Plus he has a better chance at the belt in elite because the fighters aren't at the same level as ufc, wec etc.
TAM Report post Posted June 3, 2008 That makes perfect sense! Those two brothers are DUMB as rocks and fit that stereotype to the T. Good for Pride/Zuffa for dumping him. If the MMA orginizations ever want more main stream sponsors and acceptance they are going to have to prove to the world they are not a bunch of corrupt, drug using, blood thursty thugs. I know they're playing re-runs of that Nick Diaz EliteXC fight. If you missed it, it's worth watching. If for no other reason than to see the HUGE cut get ripped open on his forehead and to watch his little hissy fit after the doc calls it.
youngbuck Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I was looking for deer so i didnt get to see the EliteXC. I forgot to tivo it too . I did see the WEC though, what a card. Staying 5 rounds with Faber aint no walk in the park. What a chin Pulver had too. I was pullin for Lil Evil, but glad to see a good fight, that didn't end 30 seconds into the first. Another good fight was the Torres fight. I've liked him since he beat that popeye guy. Did anybody else notice Clay Guida standing ringside when Torres and Maeda walked into the ring. I hope he has another fight coming up, Hes one of my fav's.
COUESAZ Report post Posted June 3, 2008 guida was in that spot for every fight. I thought he was working security or something. I like to see him fight. He is a fighter for sure.
COOSEFAN Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I would have to say thompsos has one ugly ear that thig was flaping around before the fight even started. It looked like it had a fresh case of fighter ear from training. That is a badge of honor when it comes down to it.I wish lawler and smith could have kept going. Smith said he was ok to fight. I have always like seeing lawler fight. now on for sunday to see pulver/ faber. I really never watch the stuff, but thought this was interesting. I was in the Orleans Casino in Vegas last weekend, I was sitting in T.G.I. Fridays watching this fight and remember staring at that dudes ear, I was wonderin' what it would do if he got punched in the ear........If I remember correctly it befinitely bled alot! Another interesting note was that Charlie Daniels was eatin' dinner next to us that night too...pretty cool stuff!

mikep35 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I don't think the fight was fixed but the ref definitely missed a tap and shouldn't have stood them up. Bottom line, it was a terrible fight between two less than mediocre street fighters. And thats all they are, street fighters. Look at Kimbo's guard. His legs were flat on the mat. That guy could've mounted him anytime, but was too stupid and went into a judo side mount.

I think they each expected to knock each other out early in the fight. Once that didn't happen, they didn't know what the heck to do! I'm pretty sure I could have beat them both on the ground! I've never taken Judo or Ju Jitsu (sp) but I wrestled all through highschool and even I knew what to do when they were both laying there gasping for air! KGAINES Report post Posted June 4, 2008 Casey I used to think the same thing, I would watch fights and think that I could do something better. Getting in the ring and doing it was a completely different story, if you ever want to do it start now while you are still kind of young, go to a gym/dojo/training facility and do a little training with someone who knows what they are doing. You can have fun and there are amateur type fights all the time, if you are any good at all they will get you in the ring.

COUESAZ Report post Posted June 4, 2008 This is what Matt Hughes had to say about the fights. The first round of Robbie’s fight went like we thought it would. Matt Pena had come up with a good plan on his feet, which was stay away from Scott’s right hand and with Robbie being so elusive and hard to hit we just thought that Robbie was going to get the better of him in the stand up war. At the end of the first round, I felt Robbie had Scott hurt enough to try and end the fight. I was yelling at Robbie to finish it. Robbie felt it wasn’t the time. When I heard Scott’s interviews he was talking about leaving his kids for two months to train for this fight, so I didn’t want to get into a war in the fourth and fifth round. Second round, Robbie slowed down and Scott capitalized a little bit, threw some good elbows, but I still believe Robbie won the round. Third round I think Robbie was winning more convincingly than the second. I know Scott had a hurt leg from throwing kicks and Scott started to look very frustrated. I think Scott’s aches and pains and frustrations had maybe a little to do with the stoppage. That’s just my opinion. Congrats to Robbie, he retains the belt and got his win money also. I didn’t know what to think of the Kimbo Slice fight, didn’t know much about Kimbo nor did I know much about his opponent. I do know that Kimbo doesn’t have much training so I didn’t know how much of a factor that would play. But I don’t know how fair the ref was in the fight. Looks like Kimbo could have tapped out with the guillotine attempt and I don’t know how Thompson got stood up when he was cross sides throwing elbows. It looks to me like there was maybe a little bit of favoritism, but Kimbo is a heck of a nice guy. Had a couple of forum members at the fights, Boomer and Dawn. Didn’t get to talk with them much, I was a little busy, but Robbie and I thank them for the support in heading out there, hope they liked it. Jens fought last night against Uriah Faber. I knew Jens was going through a lot back up in Iowa and from what I can tell Jens just never got started in the fight. Uriah was just able to pull the trigger before Jens did. Jens fought an exciting fight like he always does and hopefully Jens can take this loss, learn from it and become a better fighter. Today’s Monday, I think my flight’s around 6:30 PM, I’m just doing some catch up, running some errands, packing my bags and then I’ll be heading out. Thanks for all the support, probably the next blog will be when I get back next week, but Nate’s working on a video to put up on the site this week. -matt
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 I think Matt Hughes is one of the best guys in the UFC, but if the thinks Robbie won that second round, he must have brown eyes....

I've been training for over a year now in both jiu jitsu and muay thai, and its amazing how difficult it is. The real mma fighters are without a doubt the best disciplined, focused athletes on the planet and best conditioned hands down. Thats why it pissed me off so bad watching elite xc. Aside from the robbie lawler and gina fights, the show was a disgrace. And on a side note those girls fighting was phenominal. They fought like dudes The skill level and form of both girls' muay thai was amazing. Gina's teep and push kicks as well as her roundhouses and jabs were perfect. (it also helped that she trains with randy couture)
KGAINES Report post Posted June 4, 2008 We trained muay thai and aikido, with boxing, I did it for five or six years, once I had my kids the time I could dedicate to it went way down, eventually I stopped all together. Both my younger brothers did it as well, with my youngest brother being really good at it, and like Casey he wrestled in school before graduating to the muay thai, he still wants to fight mma, but you need the jiu jitsu, plus kids and a job hurt the real time needed to excel at it. One of the girls we trained with, is starting to get into the mma, she had started strictly boxing when she went pro, but I seen her in a mma fight a while back.
