Couesi1,

3 of my bucks score 98" and change with the largest being the one i didnt mount in front, it went 98 & 6/8's, the one on the left goes 87".. well i did not harvest a deer this year. I passed on alot of bucks, hoping for a good one and finally the last evening with about 15 minutes of light left i glassed up 2 nice bucks, one being in the mid 90's we guessed. we had very little time to do much with them so we cut the distance as much as we could and had to take a fairly long shot in the wind, i may have jinxed myself by talking a little trash to a buddy(dbllung) a few posts up about missing and thats just what i did. I hit just under the deer. well it was a good hunt anyway a buddy took about a 80" 3x3 the first weekend, he made a nice 430 yard shot on the buck. we'll try again in dec. with archery equip.

Redman,

Hows it going Andy? get a tag this year?Take care....

Thanks Casey he's 98 & 1/8 and the one on the right is 98 & 2/8. the one in the middle has great eyeguards and mass, but not real long tines. the other has the tine length. they were killed about 300 yards apart(diff. years)..thanks guys!!

coozfever,

Yeah its me, Redman. I did get a tag and lets say I got a little trigger happy and shot a 2x2 with decent eye guards in 32 on OPENING DAY. I still do not know what I was thinking. Not that it was a bad buck, but I had the entire hunt off to find a qualtiy deer and took a deer on the first day that I told myself all year I wasn't going to do.

Oh well, they say you should never pass on a buck the first day, that you would love to shoot the last day? RIGHT??

Outstanding bucks coozfever!

Beautiful mounts! I went to highschool with Patrick in Kearny back in the early 80s (ugh... that was a LONG time ago...). I had heard he was in San Manuel doing some hunting and maybe guiding, as a mutual buddy saw an article he had written in a magazine once a couple of years ago. Not only does it look like he is a GREAT taxidermist, but he was one heck of a wrestler back in the day... Glad to hear he's doing well...

Thanks for sharing!

S.

Coozfever,

I'm glad you posted pics of your deer. And I'm glad you posted them first before revealing the scores. I figured the larger ones to all be over 100". They got a lot of ooo's and aaahh's from the other guys too. I really was surprised to find out they don't score 100".

Those bucks are big and beautiful, and you've done well to collect that many trophies. We all probably know someone who would think that if a Coues buck doesn't score 100", then he's not a big buck (I sometimes wrestle with that thought myself). I think its a travesty if a guy gets excited enough to shoot a high 90's deer and is then dissapointed to find out he doesn't score 100".

If I ever let an inch and a half dissapoint me, then I should have my head examined! And re-visit the reasons why I hunt.

Thanks, you've helped me with my perspective.

What beautiful bucks!! But your greatest blessing is the one holding that skull!

Mike
