Newbie Here - Need Any Unit 21 AZ Elk Advice

Recommended Posts

Looking at the unit map I can tell you what I would start looking at. Having gone after Elk in AZ and UT I would look for them in the Juniper /grassy zones and higher. Figure out where the highest N&E facing terrain is within the unit. At that time of year my guess is any resident Elk will be where they can get cool mid day (wooded NE slopes) and are close to feed and water. Good luck.

Congrats on the tag! Elk can be found throughout the northern portion of the unit and certain pockets to the south. Scouting is a must and will cut down your time scrambling throughout the hunt. Find a good glassing point and let your glass do the walking. Some stud bulls in the unit but one must pay the price to reap the benefits.

Everyone pretty much nailed it.  Elk are more abundant the further north you go in 21.  Google earth will be your friend.

I forgot the most important info for you as a non resident hunter.

Be prepared for chiggers and rattlesnakes. Either have snake boots or chaps.

Did I mention rattlesnakes? Lol. U will see. Good luck and be safe.
