AZantlerhead Report post Posted May 24, 2008 Just throwing something in the wind to get everyone hyped for hunting, and maybe get that one tip that will have one of my arrows in a coues buck. I have 2 great backcountry places picked out, nice country loaded with sign year round and have found a few 100class sheds and a few nice heads from here. also plenty of mulie sign, heads and sheds. never can get close to them. very discourageing when bowhunting no doubt. This year i plan to implement a salt lick next to an earth tank in a saddle. Stand or blind for coues bucks? Does rattleing work on coues bucks? Does that C'mere Deer stuff work? I'm getting serious this bowseason instead of tromping around hopeing to get lucky. I only get those bow shot opportunities when it's not bow season it seems Just any hints that may have helped some of you guys harvest a coues with a bow is greatly appreciated. I'm also a bit hyper-active and have trouble sitting " on stand for longer than 3 hours. Any cures for this?
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted May 24, 2008 I have 2 great backcountry places picked out, nice country loaded with sign year round Stand or blind for coues bucks? Just any hints that may have helped some of you guys harvest a coues with a bow is greatly appreciated. I'm also a bit hyper-active and have trouble sitting " on stand for longer than 3 hours. Any cures for this? Stick to spots you have faith in..... put in the time (lots of time), use a ground blind if you have a hard time sitting Motionless, and take a small paperback novel. That is all you will get out of me.... .... No one taught me how to hunt these deer or gave me hints. I educated myself and made plenty of mistakes. Get out there and learn the hard way.... the reward is much greater! Good luck!
AZantlerhead Report post Posted May 24, 2008 Thanks, I'll try the blind. Deffinately can't sit motionless I do like to read books, so that would help allot! Have a few good ones on standard whitetails, maybe i'll pick up Duwayne Adams' new one on coues just for the blind and Louis L'Amour is a must Guess I'll just have to work with the ratteling, calling, C'mere deer and experiment. It's gotta work sometimes or people woudn't do it i guess.

Coues are much easier to kill with a bow if they have no idea that anything (or anyone) is around. If you are not seeing deer then you are not in the right spot! Sometimes a move of 70 yds can shift you from no deer to lots-o-deer. FYI.... I wouldn't bother playing with products like C'mere Deer.... all that stuff will be illegal to use by Jan.2009. Start your learning curve and be patient. Sit your tank in the saddle till a buck(s) comes in, "aim small, miss small", ground check a buck, and learn from it..... just that simple. Oh and keep your shots under 30 yds if at all possible... they will jump the string on water, badly.
