If I remember right, the difference is mostly the hand guard. 2nd, new version, is slightly lower profile and m-lock verses the 1st slightly higher profile and keymod, if my old man memory serves me right. My 308 is the first version and I found it at a slight clearance price, because of the change. Not really that much of a difference to me so I was very happy to find it back then for a little bit of a discount. They are nice guns and not cheap. I like your Cerakote. Mine is still plain.
