KidBowHunter Report post Posted May 20, 2008 Well I got my second turkey on Sunday with a bow this time! We woke up at 3:15. My dad and I left and got to the blind about 4:30. We had set the blind up around a lot of turkey sign. My dad also called a little. We heard gobbles down the hill where we think they were roosted. About 6:20 two hens came by. I could have shot one of the hens that had a little one inch beard, but I held off. They left. Around 7:00, a hen came by. Sure enough, a gobbler was following her. I picked my bow up and when I put my hand in it, and realized it was upside down. So my dad and I had to flip it over. We were very surprised he didn’t bolt with the noise we made. As I was about to draw, my hands went numb. I settled my first pin on him and released. He flew up and landed and then bolted. Fortunately, we had put a string tracker on him. It attaches to the broadhead and the end of the stabilizer. When you shoot, the string deploys out and then all you have to do is follow the string to the animal. We were sitting in the blind watching the string deploy out like we had caught a shark. Then we got out and followed it. He ran about 200 yards from where I shot him. We got the camera and took pictures. Then we hiked out and I gutted him. His beard measured eight and nine sixteenths. He also had a side beard that measured one and five sixteenths. His heel spurs measured one and seven sixteenths.
