Effects of the virus scare?

Recommended Posts

So reading the other thread on the market crashing I started to wonder if anyone else here has experienced any disruptions in your lives from this latest virus scare?

We know the obvious TP and water shortages at the sams club and costco along with stock market holdings tanking for now, have you had any direct effects on your daily home or work lives?

I work in the electronics field as an electrical repair tech,  with the machines we work on the majority of parts we get are from china.  We've already had a majority of vendors already express to us that once their warehouse stock is depleted they are at a stand still with them receiving parts from oversees.  The supply chain seems to have ceased at the source for now.  Not sure when they will be able to start back up into full production again.

I've also have some training I'll be going to in Nevada coming up in a couple of weeks,  so far we still have that on schedule which I'm thinking it should be fine for travel hopefully.  Even though the training is in las vegas, I'm staying off strip and don't have any plans on going to any of the casinos while there so I'm thinking it should be a low risk travel venture.

So what about you and where you're located, have you come across any disturbances in your day to day lives?

No issues and business as usual.  This is no different that the usual flu, so media hype to drive out Trump.

Unless you're fraile just like all other flues, there is nothing to stress about if you are healthy.

Probably one of the best times to travel on the cheap.  Great rates now on hotels, planes, cruises, and destination trips.

Smokin deals now to Alaska for the summer trips.

This is true, however media hype or not there are real consequences happening to supply chains, travel industries and hospitality sectors in our country.  I'm not trying to debate the hype or theory's of the trump bashing.

I'm just wondering of the fallout in your world.  If you don't see anything being effected in your little part of this earth, then take it as a blessing.  In my world I've got some stuff to deal with because of everything that happening.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experience any changes because of this as well.  Some of my wifes colleagues have had trips to conferences canceled and so forth.

I usually take 4 flights per week and its business as usual at airports for domestic travel. No change in my schedule or work load.  Just my 401k and investments are taking a beating.

Same with the market investments as well.  That's a long term ride out for sure again.

Darn 4 flights a week seems brutal.  I bet you have some great perks with that many miles.

We have one other planned trip to Hawaii in Oct to be there for our close friends who are renewing their vows.  I'm thinking the next few days may be optimal to setup at least the airfare.  Less than 400 round trip is a lot better that when I first started looking at fares a couple weeks ago.

I work for a large company who builds cell phone towers and communications systems for one of the large cell carriers. Most of our equipment comes China and this virus has really made my job difficult. The warehouses that manufacture the equipment have all been closed for over a month now and I can’t get any kind of update as to when manufacturing will continue. Also, the industry in general this year seems to be taking a big hit and construction has slowed a lot across all carriers. I do not know if it is virus related but it is really starting to feel like a big economic recession is starting to show it’s nasty head.

Work is cancelling non-essential travel and conferences, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I work in healthcare IT so we’ve got extra work to do for integration of screenings, reporting, surveillance, etc into our systems.

I heard they may cancel the elk draw results and issue tags to everyone who didn’t draw...

I hope you’re young enough to buy low and ride it out...

Man that's sucks.  We were lucky in that quite a few years ago we implemented our own warehouse system.  With that we've been able to keep a back stock of parts so when we order we're typically ordering to refresh our stock.  That with the back stock of our vendors we've luckly haven't felt the pressure as much.  However give it another couple of months then were going to have to start looking at our company coming up short with parts as well.

Good your business working out.  Yeah the TP thing always seemed weird to me as well.

Same here.   I'm in the IT field for a large financial services company.  Non-essential domestic travel suspended (ALL international travel suspended...).  NO visitors allowed in any company building.  Webex/ZOOM only for any external meetings.

Then of course there is the S&P index heavy 401K....  ;)

So with health care IT is their any type of disaster protocol training that you go through.  It seems like the forgotten part of the hospital, we always think of the drs and nurses.  Support staff have their parts to play in this as well.  I have a good friend thats a technician for Phillips and works throughout NM working on their imaging machines.  I know imaging is a big part of diagnosing this particular virus.

Yeah I wish doomsdayers would stop buying all of the masks.  Pretty soon we wont be able to use TP either

Idea stolen from my friend Ronnie thought it was quite funny.
