coueschaser3 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 He is actually refering to Arizona Black Rattlesnakes....not timber rattlesnakes....which do not exist in arizona. Arizona black tailed's, different from arizona blacks, are also confused with Timber rattlesnakes because both are commonly found at high elevations, in timber if you will. fly4fish Report post Posted July 10, 2010 Hey, it seems that I am a little late on this post, but if anybody comes across this wondering what to do about snake gaiters, I want to stress that you should go with the best pair that you can afford. I bought a cheap pair ($55) and wore them a couple times but then they just got thrown to the side. They were too hot and sweaty and made out of hard plastic (pvc I think) so they were stiff. After having another close call with a rattlesnake where he bit the sole of my river wading boot in mid stride and somehow decided to not strike the bare leg that was right on the ground next to him, I decided it was worth it to go with a pair of snake gaiters that are comfortable enough to wear. I spent $125 on a pair of TurtleSkin SnakeArmor Gaiters and have not regretted it since. I wear them all the time and they are not stiff, hot or sweaty. They are almost unnoticeable as they are made out of a puncture proof fabric that feels much like high quality rain gear. Fortunately I have not tested them out yet on a pair of fangs, but I put my life on it they will stand up to the challenge. AZP&Y Report post Posted July 10, 2010 Looks like a good quality gaiter. I'm on my second pair of snake boots. I had some winchester full leather snake boots, but they were just too heavy and didn't allow enough flexibility. I went to the Irish Setter snake boots which fit much better and have a flexible upper. I ran into a Mohave this spring and man is that a BAD BAD feeling! He was pissed as heck and aggressive! Distance Report post Posted July 17, 2010 My pop bought me a pair of gortex snake boots from Cabella's. Haven't worn them yet, but they feel really good. Great tread too. They may be a little hot, by the looks of them, but we will see. I am going to buy my son a pair of Foreverlast snake guards, which run about 40.00. He is out growing shoes so quickly, a pair of snake boots would last a season at best. I needed a new pair of hunting boots anyways, so when my dad offered, I took him up on them.
