eddielasvegas Report post Posted February 11, 2020 Hello All, During my son's spring break, we're thinking of going camping for 3-4 days. I would like to get off the beaten path a bit as I have 4WD, and all the gear to make for a reasonably comfortable experience for my neophyte family. No backpacking, just setting up a base camp and days hikes, sight seeing, maybe some shooting and the like for this trip. I'm all ears if you have suggestions or a place in mind. Ideally no more than 150 miles from Phoenix. Thanks, Eddie
Edge Report post Posted February 11, 2020 Find Mayer AZ on the map. A few miles SW out of Mayer towards Pine Flats you'll find Bull Rd/ Forest Lp202. Go about 2 miles south and you'll be at Bear Creek. Great area. Water, mature trees and great camping spots. Cabin ruins nearby and placer gold in the Creek. You'll probably have it to yourself. eddielasvegas Report post Posted February 11, 2020 Thanks Edge and biglakejake and both places noted. I forgot to mention I recently purchased a decent metal detector and doing a little gold prospecting with it is not out of the questions. Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks, Eddie

Ed67 Report post Posted February 12, 2020 South Butte area east of Florence on the south side of the river is really nice in the spring. Access off the Florence-Kelvin Highway and drive north to the river.
