scoutm Report post Posted May 8, 2008 I have a pistol grip head and it isn't as smooth as it once was. It has accumulated some dust and dirt that I need to clean out. I really like it so I'm not looking for recommendations on what to change to. Just looking for ideas on how to clean mine. I was thinking of spraying with brake cleaner and then oiling but I don't know what kind of oil to use. I don't want to use an oil thats going to attract more dirt. Any thoughts? How do you clean yours?
GameHauler Report post Posted May 8, 2008 I have done the brake clean deal and really do not think it is a good idea. As far as a lubricant I have good luck with spray silicone (Dry type) Maybe Jim White will jump in here and help.
COUESAZ Report post Posted May 8, 2008 Maybe compresed air would help a bit. The can stuff for computers may not be strong enough but the air compersor with a spry nosel on it should blow out any dirt. Like GH said use a silicone spray (dry) and it will not collect dirt. That is what i use on moving trailer parts and things that need a lube and are in the dust. Do not use oil base stuff like WD40 it will turn into a mud ball and freeze up on you. scoutm Report post Posted May 9, 2008 Thanks for the ideas. I was also thinking of cleaning with some alcohol swabs - what's you thoughts on that?
Coues Sniper Report post Posted May 9, 2008 Thanks for the ideas. I was also thinking of cleaning with some alcohol swabs - what's you thoughts on that? I've done that, works well. I go over to my old mans house and use his air compressor to clean off most of the dust, and the alcohol swabs to get any grime. I also bring a can of compressed air with me on hunts, but the compressor is obviously much more effective.
