bullwidgeon Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Generally speaking is the first rifle hunt or the second rifle hunt more crowded with hunters? I have the oppertunity to hunt either hunt with my vacation. I was thinking coues hunting in units like 23,24 or 26. I like the idea of the first three day hunt just for the fact that I can probably find some deer a day or two before the hunt and watch them before they get shot at. After scouting I figure I am going to rule out muzzleloaders as it all seems to be pretty big canyon country and 100-150 yard shots might not be possible for me but 300 or so might be possible... Thanks. Bret M.
coueselk Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Bret, this year will different than the past few years. The last couple of years New Mexico had two 3-day hunts and the 5-day hunt. This year, they did away with one of the 3-day hunts, so you can probably expect to have quite a few more people hunting both of the hunts. Usually though, the 5-day hunt will have more people. Due to the fact that it runs into the weekend, so the people that don't have any vacation will have to hunt on a weekend. Hope this helps. Danny

coueshunter Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Brett, send crazyaboutcoues an email and he will give out his experience. I was going to go over there this year but money/time constraints shut it out for me. Hope you do well.............Allen..........
Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 28, 2003 Bret, I'd opt for the first hunt on two accounts. First, it's in the midddle of the week so there are no weekend hunters. Second, the deer will less likely to be boogered since there's no previous rifle hunt ending a couple of days before. Doug/Red Rabbit
