elmergoo Report post Posted May 2, 2008 I know they ain't up for voting, but I prefer 12x50.Any more magnification than that I feel you have to use a tri-pod.
willhunt4coues Report post Posted May 2, 2008 Depends if you are hunting the open/canyons then 12 or 15 (preferably 15) but if you are in the pine/thick juniper then 8 or 10 would be good. Last weekend we went to Heber/Overguard area and my 10 were kinda blurry because i couln't see to far. When i got to a ridge and over looked christopher creek they were clear as day. So it really depends COUES YES 15 power all the way (so you can see the little movement in the brush or under trees.
HBU Report post Posted May 2, 2008 I think a pair of 10s and a pair of 15s are essential. I'm looking for some 8s right now for bow hunting in the woods.
GameHauler Report post Posted May 2, 2008 Have to agree with Clay Depends on what you are doing. You could build a 300HP V.W. that would run off and leave a 300H.P. Super Duty. Now hook up your RV to that 300 H.P. V.Dub and tow it to the mountains I have a nice little pair of Nikon 10X25s that will be the only optics on my Turkey Hunt. bcoover Report post Posted May 3, 2008 Come on guys. A thousand or so members and only 7 votes. To make things simple binos for a deer hunt in unit 33. If you had to choose from the three choices which would it be.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 3, 2008 10+15x50 Duovids. I really think they are the best power that there is!
GameHauler Report post Posted May 3, 2008 I have never hunted 33 but a quick look at the map makes me think that terrain is changing every couple miles. For that I would say 10X 50"s would give a little more light at dawn and dusk $.
elmergoo Report post Posted May 4, 2008 Mr.Bcoover I hunt 33 and in my experience 10x ain't enough and 15x you need a tri-pod.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted May 4, 2008 No votes here since the proper choices are not on the ballot, imo. I do like 10x for use under 400 yards. 10x42 on a tripod when not around the neck. I had a pair of 10x50 Leicas and they were too heavy for the little return of just a few minutes at dusk. In addition to 10x, 15s are very useful. I would want both. The objective size on your 15x is too small. Minox 15x58 on a budget, or the Swaro 15x56. For the high magnification, you need good glass to get their usefullness and resolution. That said, my glass is the Leica Duovid 10+15x50. Compared themem side by side with Swaros and any difference is miniscule and subject to personal preference regarding ergonomics. I like the Duovids as I can still wear them around the neck with teh bino Manager harness, and the cut 3 pounds and another set of binos out of the pack. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...amp;#entry63049 Doug~RR
ajohunter Report post Posted May 4, 2008 I personally carry 2 sets of optics in the field. Swaro 15's on the tri pod and a pair of 10x42 EL's. I usually carry the 15's around my neck when hiking in to my glassing spot, then when im established on my spot for the day I use the 10's for quick looks when im not looking through the 15's. Diamondbackaz Report post Posted May 4, 2008 The 10X50's will out perform the other two in low light conditions.
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted May 6, 2008 I voted 10x50, the 15x56 or 15x60 have many, many uses as well. If I was to own ONLY one pair of Binos (instead of 3-4) .... that One pair would be 10x50's for me. Just my $.02!!
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted May 6, 2008 No votes here since the proper choices are not on the ballot, imo. Doug~RR I agree with Doug. 15x56 gets my vote, but it's not on your ballot. It's usually the only bino I carry with me. I hate to carry two (a 10x and 15x), so I just take one and leave it in my pack until I am somewhere I want to glass. I have 10x40 zeiss and love those, but like the extra power of the 15x56s. I also have a pair of 15x45 zeiss and think it's just not bright enough, although they are very pleasant to carry and use in decent light. Amanda
Schmitty Report post Posted May 6, 2008 Gino, Do you find yourself using the 10x50's more of the tripod than the 15's? Doug has those ultravid 10x50's on sale pretty cheap and I'm awfully tempted as I can think of more than a few canyons where 15's may be a bit much. He's also got the 10x42's on sale which would be far more comfortable around the neck, but something about the 10x50's keep calling my name. thanks for any help, Craig
