Some turkey hunting fun!

Recommended Posts

Well, I just got back from a week of turkey hunting in New Mexico. It was tough this year and we had to resort to many creative tactics and log hard hunting days. But we were able to fill some tags on some great birds and of course had an awesome time! I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Many hours were spent on stand waiting over turkey trails or strut zones. Here Scott tries to stay warm as the wind blows with the setting sun.post-669-1209687117_thumb.jpg

Although we were not having much luck calling in toms, I called in hens once or twice and even three times a day! So it was still pritty cool!

Here, a small flock of hens we called in walks by 3 yards in front of Scott!

On Sunday we didn't hunt and took a long trip to the Bear Wallow Lookout Tower. Ryan and his girls pose on the steps of the tower.post-669-1209692525_thumb.jpg

Even though it was rough, the girls enjoyed their first turkey hunt, we all had a great time and saw lots of birds and were able to take some great toms. A couple of other toms were missed and a couple of flocks of jakes were passed up. Even though we had trouble calling in toms and had to resort to other methods we were able to call in lots of hens!

We also saw three huge bears!

One day, Ryan even called in a wolf with his hen calls! Scott saw it run in behind Ryan, stop, look him over, winded him and then took off without Ryan even knowing the wolf was there!

I hope you enjoyed the pictures because we sure enjoyed taking them!

Is it hunting season? I think I've forgotten what that was like. Nice job, Lance! Can't wait to get back in the game with ya!

Congratulations on bagging some nice gobblers!! It has been a tough year in NM for calling them in. All the turkeys my family has gotten have been spot and stalk this year because we have found that they just haven't been coming in and they are mostly silent as soon as they leave the roost in the mornings.
