Schmitty Report post Posted April 28, 2008 Based on research and recommendations, I went with a spott-hog sight on my new setup. (Cameron Hanes 7 deadly pins w/ hogg wrap) Anyhow, I'm having a hard time making out the individual pins. The green pins are pretty easy to see, but I have a much harder time with the orange and red pins. I've got an astigmatism in both eyes that puts my vision at 20/40, but I haven't felt the need to wear glasses. I spoke with a good friend who happens to be an optometrist and bowhunter and he suggested I swap out all the pins to green or yellow. Having the hogg wrap, I'm not so sure this will be too easy. Anybody have any ideas for an easy to see sight for aging eyes? I ddidn't have near the problem with the older fiber optic PSE sight that I was using, however there was alot more space between the pins due to the bow being much slower. Go ahead and offer up any suggestions and or jokes about my getting old. thanks, Schmitty
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 Craig, I think the 7 pins are a little more than necessary, so maybe down grading to 5 pins (20,30,40,50,60 should be more than adequate) would possbly causea little less eye strain and cluttered mess. I know that the pin spacing wouldnt change, but it would give fewer items for the eyes to focus on. Just my $.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted April 28, 2008 I also have a little astigmatism so distant vision is suffering, in addition to the aging eyes requiring weak reading glasses, so I can relate. I have 6 green pins on my sight- they do show up the best for me. I tried/tested a verifier lens last week in the peep by Specialty Archery. It cleared up/focused the pins, but the target became slightly blurrier, so I passed. Your local archery dealer may have them to try. http://www.specialtyarch.com/verifiers.asp

GRAYLIGHT Report post Posted April 29, 2008 The Spot Hogg with Hogg wraps has interchangeable fiber optic sizes. from .019, .029 to .039. What I think you should do is simple give the boys at Spot Hogg a call and have them switch over the fiber optic sizes to a larger diameter that you can see more effectively. Call Josh at (541) 995-3702. Tell him what you need to do, send it in, they'll fix it up and tell them Marlon sent ya! Good luck and happy hunting!

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 Forgot to mention, all of my pins on my sight are green (the easiest color for the human eye to see) minus the bottom two. They are are both red, so they fade the earliest as to not take longer shots that I should when it is too dark to make the shot. So Craig, my .02 are to change to .029 pins, and change to 5 pins. crazy4COUES Report post Posted April 29, 2008 Schmitty-Have you tried a clarifier? Also SPOT-HOGG has always been first class to deal with, I would send the wrap to them and have it "customized" to your needs as far as color. It can be a pain in the ars to do yourself. 300 wsm Report post Posted May 1, 2008 I just got the true glow extreme series with the wrap. They are the brightest sights I have ever seen. They also come with a light that screws in at the other end of the fibers wich really make them glow even brighter. I'll bet they would make it easier for you to see them.
