Young Man

Been there, Done that :(

I think you are better off putting that money in the bank.

Those Binos will just become hand me downs to your kids

and they will hate you for it :(

My $.02 is that you do not have a lot of funds to waste??????????

so save up to get some real glass.

I realize you want something NOW :(

I am not saying you need a $2000.00 pair of Swaros

just that a $300.00 pair is a waist of money.

Hope you listen better than my teenagers :(

YEP! For once, Mike has a good point! Save the money until you can get some Nikons, Alpens ( I had some and I liked them), or depending on how long you can wait, some Minox or Lecia. When you buy the best the first time, you only cry once.

Vortex makes high quality optics, check out the Vipers. They now have a 15x50 version which is very nice and compares to higher end optics.

Vortex stuff may seem nice, but you're kidding yourself if you really think they compare to the likes of Swaro, Zeiss, or Leica. I've haven't used them much more than just checking them out, but everyone I know who jumped on the Vortex bandwagon learned their lesson and jumped right back. Longshooter on here had a Vortex scope that he was all proud of and the focus knob stopped working in the middle of a hunt just after he bought it :o. The quality just isn't there. They aren't garbage, but the only thing they have in common with Swarovski is the color ;). Listen to GH on this one.

Rimhunter,

It's not BS, it's just my opinion ;) . And I agree that skill has just as much to do with locating animals as the quality of glass. But better quality certainly can't hurt.

Skyhawk - If you're set on getting the Vortex and that's all you can get right now, then do it. Just saying that you would probably be better off with higher quality glass. That's all. Good luck with whatever you purchase.

SkyhawkBH,

What binos do you have now? Spotting scope?

What is your budget?

Do you have a tripod?

What kind of hunting will the binos be used for? Stillhunt, spot-n-stalk, elk in the pines, open coues country?

Thanks Kevin you are right, this is not BS.

I was just trying to save Skyhawk some money.

If he wants to buy those Binos because thats all he can afford

and WANTS to have something NOW, than that is fine.

I just stated my thoughts Rimhunter.

I may be wrong but I think some day you will

buy something better than your Swifts.

I REALLY liked my Pentex 10X50's

till I got to spend more than a minute behind Swarows.

I also stated he did not have to spend $2000.00

but should save his money and get a little better glass.

I am not a rich man and I struggle to buy my TOOLS for hunting.

I am not trying to show off with this picture but there is a VERY GOOD

reason that I have spent the amount of money I did on this GLASS

Skyhawk,

Talk with Doug at CameraLand. He can beat the Sportsmans Guide price, and you do not have to pay shipping. Great service also.

He also has the Vortex 15s

Mike,

One pair of binos that I would like to compare to the Swaros and Leicas are the Nikon Superior Es. They are porro prism, but still supposed to have a better image than the roofs costing Xs more. 8x32 at $699 and 10x42 at $899. We may have older eyes, but we have looked through enough crappy optics to discern quality. And on a hunt or scouting trip, it's the binos and the boots that are most important, imo. Perhaps at the June 21 BBQ at Marshal Lake, we can all bring our optics to compare.
