Hey Ultramag,

I feel your pain man, last year was the 1st year in 19 that I didn't get a w.tail tag. My advice to you........whether someone invites you or not. Just go anyway - take your bow! I was fortunate enough to get a 23 tag and have located what appears to be a primo spot.

If I whack a thumper, I'll post it on the website.

Hey Ultramag,

I drive past the northern border once or twice a month on service calls. I have been itching to try that unit in the late archery hunt all year long. If you wanna give that a try give me a holler.

Sincerely,

Mark

Cousi1,

I think you're dreaming. I told you there are no deer in 23.

Rembrandt,

I know you told me that on the forum, but I been scouting around,.................and i'm seeing a lot of good looking stuff! They must have had a good fawn crop last year, cause they are TROPHY spikes...... and a lot of 'em. yummy!

well i bet we saw 20 bucks one weekend, what i did is i got frustrated and found a spot to park the truck, and i hiked to the nastiest canyon i could find, setup my swarvaski binos, and said, i am going to sit here till i find a good buck, well i saw quite a few deer including some bucks, all it took was some patience, and some work, thats how i killed my first buck , he was a nice one,2x2 about 80 inches ,not a monster, but for my first one, hey i was proud still are

An 80" 2x2 is a handsome mature buck. You should be proud of that.

Do you think that you are not going to get a buck? You know what I have my sights set on, but the question is will I get him. I went up scouting again and saw a good number of bucks with good size, I don't think I will come home empty handed but how big is the buck that I am going to shoot. Plus I found another good spot. I have a feeling it is right where you are going to be hunting. If you are not hunting this area then I bet my second guess is right. I can honesty say that I have looked over every inch of 23. I have checked places I would never go to hunt and found some to be good and have gone to some place that I thought would be great only to find nothing. If I only knew where you were hunting I would know what I was up against. I am not worried about you proving your hunting skill, just wondering if the place you hunt produces moster bucks. I wouldn't want to come home with a 130 inch buck only to find out you got a 135 inch buck. But If we both came home with bucks of that size I don't think we would give a sh#t.

Bcoover,

Sounds to me like that rembrandt fella won't say much. You'll likely never find out where he's gonna be unless you stick a homing device on his boot.......i'll bet he smacks a good one, ........ sounds like he's a dedicated coues fanatic like you.

Bcoover,

Unit 23 is a big place, a big deerless place. Sounds like you know some pretty good spots.

I've killed a bunch of whitetails, but I still haven't killed one over 100". Since I started backpack hunting, a number of seasons have passed deerless. I just don't care to pack a deer out if it isn't special. This is what it took to become a trophy hunter, 'cause I love to knock deer down and take 'em home.

I like to compete (especially basketball) but I am not competing with you for a bigger deer. I will be perfectly alright if you kill a bigger deer than I do. In fact, I hope you kill a screaming TOAD.

I am gonna bust my butt getting into the wilderness and brave the elements only so I can have a chance of killing the biggest whitetail of my life. I might not kill a deer at all. But most importantly, after I reach my destination, I am gonna relax and glass, glass, glass. I plan to move very little. I expect to see some decent bucks, and I will let them walk on by if they aren't special. I have a buch of vacation days carved out for this hunt and I'm gonna spend quality time with a brother, the mountains, and my God.

Sounds like fun, eh? I can hardly wait!

Mike,

You mean to tell me those paintings of giant coues deer you do are not of real bucks? I feel robbed and cheated and to think I was going to put in for unit 23 next year because of those paintings! Seriously good luck guys. I have seen a few (very few) coues deer in unit 23 while bear hunting. That was a few years back I am sure the bears and lions ate them all by now though.

Hey Bullwidgeon,

What????? Either the bears and lions ate 'em all or the whitetail buck detection synapse in your binoculars has misfired, cause it sure sounds to me like you're a whitetail hunting machine......and I'm thinking that whitetail bucks abound in Unit 23.

p.s. I hope that Rembrandt guy gets his first 100 plusser this year, then he can draw his own monster in a painting.
