mike ornoski Report post Posted November 13, 2004 yes their is deer in 42 lots of them try east of pima @ your sure to do well. cave creek closed 2 years ago due to a hunter killing a 4x4 in some persons yard. remember before you shoot know the area so this kind of thing does not happen again becouse cave creek has just as many deer as any were in the state @ now we can not hunt it. mike
Cazador Report post Posted November 13, 2004 This unit used to be really good for Deer back in the late 80's & early 90's. We use to hunt 128th Street south off the Dynamite road towards the McDowell Mtns. This area burned in the mid 90's and alot of homes are now being built in this area. I've seen one of my biggest Mule Deer in there. A couple of years ago while hunting 118th Street north of Dynamite I talked to another bowhunter that seen a nice Coues Deer buck! It must have come down from the Cave Creek/Seven Springs area. We took a few deer back then. I've talked to the Game Warden for this area and he recommended hunting the McDowells. He told me there are some very big ones in there if you are willing to hike several miles. There is a big valley back in there in which the G&F just recently (a couple of years ago) built a water hole/catchment. He said that he's counted at least 50 deer a day water or frequent this area. I usually hit this area once or twice now for a quick day hunt. If you hunt this area and not willing to hike alot I would recommend hunting near the golf courses (Troon North). Just not too close! grizzly Report post Posted December 11, 2004 I saw a couple of muley bucks on the south side of Dynamite rd about 3 years ago. One was a pretty tall and wide 3 x2. This was in 1st week of Feb, still had my bow and my archery tag in the truck but too late. Also seen quite a few deer in the Usery Mtn Park area, never seen any bucks but the park rangers say they have.
