There are 27 books in all, most of which have never even been read. They have faux leather covers with an image to illustrate the topic of each one. Time-Life offered them at $12.95 each plus S&H in the 1970s. Today, they would likely be at least $25 per.

We had this in my house as I was growing-up as a kid in the 70s.  Spent endless hours browsing and studying the pics (admittedly, rarely reading....).  My favorites were The Soldiers and The Cowboys.

Yuppers. Anyone with kids in EL school should have them so they can learn some history because they sure ain't teaching much of it anymore in today's education system.

Yep, 6 year old. I have a bunch of my granpas old Louis lamour books for him to start on.

Those are decent reading, but they are fiction -- about what they teach for history in the schools now. 😖

I was watching a couple episodes of the PBS series "The West" on Netflix yesterday. It was done by Ken Burns and covers a lot of the topics in this set of books. They would be great for someone who likes to delve into this country's history.

I saw some of that series when it was on PBS. It was well done. And you're right. I'd bet some of the same photos from these books were used in the TV series.
