DCMHunter Report post Posted April 18, 2008 I will be doing a fund raser with my 4H shooting group. But I wish I could go just to fill out a blue card so I cold tell them what a mistake I think they are making by decreasing some hunts upto 80% just so they can increase other hunts by the some or more percentage. I think I saw one hunt with like 150% increase. There goes Coues hunting as we knew and loved it. The December tags will know by like drawing for the strip and take 10 to 15 years to draw. Although if it is like anyother meeting the snobs will thumb their nose at anyone making coments and do what they want to make more money and ruin hunting. CouesWhitetail Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Sorry to be slow reporting back to you guys, but I stayed in PHX for another meeting on Sunday. Pete C. sent out a summary to some folks by email and I will just cut and paste it into here. Basically everything went through as proposed. From Pete: Yesterday at the Commission meeting the only significant change the Commission made to the department hunt recommendations was to reduce the number of permits in 13B. We had asked them to reduce the rifle permits to a total of 45 (-20) and establish the new archery hunt at no more than 30 (-15). Commissioner Martin made that recommendation and the vote was unanimous. The ABA did get the Commission to leave the hunt recommendations the same a last year in unit 3B and the 15 units. This involved some tinkering to make everything fit, minor stuff. Other that the deer recommendations went just as the department wanted. Most interesting was the effort by Commissioners Hernbrode and Martin to remove all of the multiple bag units for mountain lions. Another part of that same motion was for all units (statewide) to have the 9 month lion season instead of a year long season that the multiple bas units had. The motion failed 3 - 2 and the departments recommendation passed as presented. We are razor thin on this issue. It appears, if confirmed, Norman Freeman's position on lions will be a determining vote on future lion issues.
Mark-Devin Report post Posted April 21, 2008 I will be there! Hope some others from here attend as well. It's worth it just to see how things operate and to view the attitude of the commission. Amanda Amanda, You mentioned in your post that it's worth it to see how things operate and to view the attitude of the commission. Can you tell us a bit more about the attitude of the commission? Was there much public input? Was the commission receptive or dissmissive, kind or short of patience?
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Whether the commission is receptive or dismissive seems to depend on whether you get up there to agree with them or to disagree with them. I was shocked to see how chairman mcclean treated ABA president Dick King at the meeting. It was very unprofessional in my opinion. However, when other groups like those from Audubon got up to thank the commission for something, they were very well received. I took video of the meeting, so you can can see for yourself. It will take me awhile to get it posted. Amanda
Red Rabbit Report post Posted April 22, 2008 http://www.azgfd.gov/artman/publish/article_798.shtml In the brief summary in the link above, some other changes not mentioned before are: Squirrel season will close Dec 31. Gambels and Scaled quail will open the first Friday of October (Oct 3, 2008). Mearns will open Nov 28. Fall Turkey will be shotgun or bow; no more centerfire rifles, handguns or muzzleloaders. Note that some fall bear hunts will be earlier.
bowsniper Report post Posted April 23, 2008 ABA president Dick King is the most diplomatic, friendly person I know. To hear that he was verbally abused by the commission doesn't surprise me, because they did it to him last year too. The commissioners are bellicose. It does surprise me that there hasn't been more posts upset about archery deer permits. Either I missed the thread, or everybody has just given up like I have. To you fish cops spying on the forum, your process is corrupt and your "public input" forums are bogus. Your Game Chief, Mr. Ordway, is a pompous, arrogant idiot. Why don't you just save your time and our money, skip the bogus "public input", and just do whatever you want. The end result will be the same. Mark

Red Rabbit Report post Posted April 23, 2008 It does surprise me that there hasn't been more posts upset about archery deer permits. Either I missed the thread, or everybody has just given up like I have. Mark Mark, I do not think you missed the discussion here. Only 7 posts regarding the loss of December Coues permits in the name of opportunity, but over 40 on where to get a burger in Payson. Only 1 person went to the meeting on Tucson last week. I would wager an equal number sent emails or phone calls to the commission and department. Kinda surprising in a negative way for a hunting site. Equal apathy regarding the archery permitting was likely prevalent. Some archery discussion was mixed in here: http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...c=5894&st=0 Most of the discussion about the archery permittting was on Bowsite, with well over a hundred responses. http://forums.bowsite.com/tf/regional/thre...28&state=AZ Doug
