muledeerarea33? Report post Posted April 16, 2008 I am looking for anyone in the Tucson area who can take my house plans from Microsoft Paint and make them all official like for cochise county to approve them so I can start building my house. I am not sure exactly what they need as far as structural engineering but was hoping to be able to sit down with someone who knows what they are doing so I can ask a bunch of questions and get the plans done right. Not looking for any discounts or anything like that I just would rather give my business to a guy on here. Thanks Daniel
IHunt2live Report post Posted April 16, 2008 I know you mentioned before that you are going to do most of the work yourself but I know a guy who is not a member of this site but LOVES to hunt, when his back or leg aren't broken, who is a great electrician. Own his own business out of Tucson. I'm not sure if he can make up blue prints of your house, I'll ask though.

longshooter Report post Posted April 16, 2008 You first need a architect to draw your plot plan, foundation, floor plan etc then you get a engineer to do your structurals like headers, trusses, details etc. Don't forget you will need a soils test prior to your foundation details to see how big of footers and if you need post tension etc.
DesertBull Report post Posted April 16, 2008 You'll need plumbing and electrical design too. You're best bet is to get an architect to handle all of it.

muledeerarea33? Report post Posted April 16, 2008 thats kinda what I am looking for, someone who can draw it out and work up the engineering or has some one to do that. any one know any one or companies here that does that? As far as the soil tests when I was talking to the county they said that they did not require a soil test for a foundation, only a perk test for the septic. I just want something that has a seal of approval so the county will approve it and i can go to work.

TAM Report post Posted April 16, 2008 I'm not sure about all the requirements in the Tucson area, but in Yavapai County you don't need to hire a full blown architect. You can save a lot of money by hiring a draftsman to draw up the plans for you. Then when you submit your plans to the truss companys for bids (Sunstate Truss, Foxworth, Shuck & Sons etc) they will do the enginering calculations for you and stamp the plans. Then when you put them through the city or county for approval you will have everything you need for approval. I would be real surprised if you don't need a soils test. Arizona is loaded with expansive soils which makes foundations real tricky. You may want to double check on that. Draftsman in the Prescott area charge in the $1.10 - $1.50 per square food range. An architect would be double if not more.
