DesertBull Report post Posted April 16, 2008 I drew a Nov archery tag for 7W 1st choice.......by mistake. Someone used the wrong hunt #, it was supposed to have been the Sept 7W hunt. There went my 8 bonus points . This is my first time applying for an archery elk hunt. We're going to make the best out of it. CouesTracker That sucks! Arizona Griz Report post Posted April 17, 2008 I have the November 4B archery tag. It was my 4th or 5th choice. It will be a tough hunt but it's in the backyard of our cabin.
Lance Report post Posted April 17, 2008 I almost applied for the Nov instead of the Sept hunts myself. I wonder how many people did that? It used to be that all you had to do was make sure it was an archery cow or bull number. If people were drawing them as 3rd choice that meens they were extremely Low demand! AZ RANGER Report post Posted April 17, 2008 My hunting buddy accidently drew the Nov Archery hunt in 27. We were real excited at first, then about 30 mins. later we looked closer at the hunt number and realized what happened. We decided to put in seperate this year and I am glad we did cause I drew archery bull Unit 1. and he blew his bonus points on a hunt he did not want, but at least he is going hunting. it will be tough though. DesertBull Report post Posted April 17, 2008 You guys that drew by mistake should call the G&F and tell them so. Otherwise, they are going to use your applications in the stats to determine if more Nov tags (and less Sept tags) will be issued next year.
Couestracker Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Ha ha, we got tag #1 and tag #2! CouesTracker
Red Rabbit Report post Posted April 17, 2008 CouesTracker, You undoubtedly drew those being in the 20% bonus pass group for top BP holders, taking 2 of the 5 permits. Sorry about your gaffe. Doug~RR
jim Report post Posted April 17, 2008 You can not even come close to thinking that a nov 22 tag and a 1 or 27 tag can even be considered the same, in hard factor. The elk up here pattern alot better than in 22. I have had 2 22 tags and those tags are tough. I had 27 nov down as my second choice and did not draw it. So there must be some demand. I did draw 22 s as my 4th choice and know that I will have to scout it alot harder than I would have if I would have drawn 27. I also know of 5 other nov tag holders 2 in 27 second choice and 3 in unit 7 4th choice.
ehunt Report post Posted April 18, 2008 couestracker, that is so funny you say that!! i applied for my brother late the night before the draw closed and accidently put him in for the same hunt, and he drew tag #3!!! lol i felt really bad but he is happy about it, and he only had a couple of bonus points. eric
Packer Report post Posted April 19, 2008 I tried for a Nov tag second choice as well as 3rd and 4th and got skunked on all of them. Packer
tjhunt2 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 Sry but I do not agree they will become high demand hunts. I have been hunting or been on Nov. Archery hunts for quite a few years and they can be good but most of the time they stink. If you just want to go hunting and don't care so much about a wall hanger than this will give you a chance to get out but most of the people that have drawn a Nov. tag will say screw that after the first time they draw it. Look at the past years Nov. hunts in the Stats. They have good draw odds but very poor success results. If I was just out to fill the freezer, get a chance to hunt and did not care about burning any bonus points I would put in for rifle cow before spending countless hours in a stand or blind over a frozen water hole My $.02 "If I was out to fill the freezer and didn't care about burning any bonus points?????" Well, that's Gamehauler's statememt but ask him why he chose a late Nov. archery elk hunt then if he didn't want to burn any bonus points or spend countless hours in a stand or blind over a frozen water hole. Gamehauler must want to fill his freezer. TJ
4Falls Report post Posted April 19, 2008 They WILL become high demand as the desire fo hunt elk increases every year. Some guys already have these hunts figured out and succeed on them on a regular basis. Just wait till someone with a Nov archery unit 8 tag kills a toad and watch the demand skyrocket.
