GameHauler Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Anyone ever use a Contender 410 for Turkey? I think it would be a blast to use my TC this year. What loads are out there for Turkeys? Anyone set up to make me a load?
TLH Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Mike, i have a .410 and they will shoot the high brass but i have a problem killing quail with mine--not sure if you could heat them up to kill a turkey. It would be a kick in the backside to hunt beards with one though.

ajohunter Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I sometimes carry my .410 quail hunting because it adds some excitement to my hunt. Have killed alot of quail shooting high brass 6's. I would bet if you used high brass 4's and took head shots it would be good turkey medicine!!
GameHauler Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Just got back from testing 4 factory loads at 20yds. The best was the Federals #6, nice group in the center with a nice expansion group out to about 16" and then erratics out to about 24" I feel pretty good about this round on a bird at that range. Next was the Rem Express #6 with about the same group size but lacking the tighter center group. Third was the Winchester #6 It was getting pretty scattered. And last was Winchester #4 It would be luck to get 1 BB in the head. Feeling pretty good about being able to take one in the 20yrd range but I will take my shot gun for a QUICK follow up if needed. I sure wish someone had some feedback that has tried/done this before
billrquimby Report post Posted April 12, 2008 The .410 with No. 7 1/2 shot is fine for head shots on gobblers at close range. Just ask my grandson Logan Greene. Logan shot a huge tom with his Mossburg pump .410 when he was 10 years old. We called it to within five steps of him. Bill Quimby
