Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted April 5, 2008 Got an invite last night to go to Texas on a free turkey hunt in a week. I'm not prepared and I'm not much of a Turkey hunter, so your advice will be appreciated. I have a brand new 12 ga. that I bought a few years back at the Flag DU banquet, and I have Never shot it. Kinda had a lot of "spirits" that night so I don't even know anything about the gun... ....other than it is chambered in 3", it is ported on top of the barrel, and it has an "accu choke"... Just pulled it out of the closet for the first time today...... So..... What are you guys shootin' at the Gobblers??? Thanks, CnS
GameHauler Report post Posted April 5, 2008 DUDE You are going to have a blast. You may want to borrow my Mossberg though. Or better yet take your Bow. We all know you are good to 100yds

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Gino, try some "T" loads.
tjhunt2 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Don't get all confused and worked up over all the different loads. Go to Wal Mart and buy a turkey load in #2 or #4. I prefer #2 but #4 will do the trick just the same. You know how close you must be. Have a great time and share pics when you get back. TJ
mjmhunter Report post Posted April 6, 2008 After you called me this morning, I went and looked at what Tiana used in Nebraska last year and she was shooting Federal Premium 3" #4 turkey loads with a turkey choke. She shot her first bird at about 35 yards and her second at 20 yards without any issues. I also shot the Federal's except in the 3 1/2" and had no problems. GameHauler Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Gino, I am really offering my Mossberg if you would like to take it. It has a Full chock, 32" barrel and is know to take Turn-a-key on the fly. Why would anyone shoot a bird on the ground Talk about ethics One of these 2 birds dropped from the sky like a Meadow(Lark) 270 bullet at 250yds Had to wait about 35 minutes for this one to jump into the air when a Pulp finally goosed it Your going to have fun on this one Its Turkey Season Got to love it

GameHauler Report post Posted April 6, 2008 "One of these 2 birds dropped from the sky like a Meadow(Lark) 270 bullet at 250yds" That didn't come out just right I was refuring the the loose of forward movement of a 270 once it starts getting past 200yds not that I shot it at
az4life Report post Posted April 6, 2008 I heard about this shot for Turkey in Kansas City 2 weeks ago. Just looke it up on the web, and unfortunately it is not available yet. Next year this should be your first choice for the best tasting turkeys! Season Shot Good luck and have fun

Jeremy picked me up some of the Federal #4's today as well.... so I'll go out and shot a pattern with both.
Rembrant Report post Posted April 7, 2008 C'n'S, Yep those will work just fine, but the same thing in 6's will work just finer. Give it a thought; You're gonna call in a gobbler to 40 yds or within, then you're gonna pepper his head with lead shot. A little pellet in the brain works just as good as a little bit bigger pellet in the brain. Wouldn't you want to have a denser pattern, more pellets per square inch to insure a brain shot at a target of about 2 square inches? 4's are OK, but not as good as 6's. 2's are wasteful - they waste turkeys. Breaking bones don't work too good with quail or turkeys; break legs they fly, break wings they run. Brain shots work each and every time. Don't ask me how I know.
