Humans and Elk Calving

Recommended Posts

This is an interesting article about the effect of human disturbance during elk calving.

I recall hearing that Bismark Lake on the northwest side of the SF Peaks was once the biggest elk calving spot in the state.

It’s ironic that recreational users of public land, those that contribute zero dollars to the conservation of wildlife, habitat improvements and local game and fish budgets, are directly responsible for wildlife mortality. Yet hunters are the bad guys.

Not a ton of water in the lake either most years.  Lot more hikers, mtn bikers, campers, cabins in the area in the last 25 years too.
