Jim White vs Bogen 701rc2 fluid head

I like the idea of a fluid head for smooth motion, but I know the White head is bullet proof and more lightweight. I do pack the thing around a lot. Thoughts?

I use both. If I am just hunting, then I use the JW head. If I am videotaping and hunting, I use the bogen 701rc2. It's a very smooth head but it's bulkier than Jim's.

I never could get used to the Jim White head. It is built great, i just can't use it very well. I use the 700rc2. I video and glass of the same head so it works well. I cut the arm length way down to make it less bulky. I dont think you could go wrong with either one. I really wuold like to have the newer Outdoorsman's head though. I think it is the best of both worlds; smooth and compact.

Never used the Jim White, but I have the 700 and it's the best that I have personally used. I've tried 6-7 different models over the last few years. Some were good but way too heavy, some were light but just too flimsy. I too cut down the panning handle on the 700 and I bought 3 extra of the tightening screws to keep in my pack after one fell off during a long hike.
