cjl2010 Report post Posted August 7, 2019 I called Jeff at annealeez and he makes a wheel set for $25 for the hornet case.
elwood Report post Posted August 7, 2019 Ok thanks, we will need to buy the wheels then. Will let you know if it solves the split cases.
cjl2010 Report post Posted August 7, 2019 He said to just order any wheel kit and in the notes put that you want the wheels for the hornet case. Might be good to confirm via email/phone. good luck and keep us posted. How were your fire forming loads looking?
elwood Report post Posted August 8, 2019 Finally figured out a load where 18 out of 20 did not split. I still want to try annealing the rest beforehand and the more research I do the more I realize how much I "need" an annealing machine for myself.
elwood Report post Posted August 8, 2019 Regular 22 Hornet, successful K Hornet fireform, split case
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted August 8, 2019 Dam! Is there no in-between die?? That’s a heck of a body extension to fire form! I see why you want to anneal.
cjl2010 Report post Posted August 8, 2019 Of course you “need” an annealing machine! That 22 k hornet is awesome looking!!
elwood Report post Posted August 8, 2019 I did end up running a 6mm mandrel through the virgin hornet brass first, then a pass through the K Hornet FL sizer. That created a shoulder in the correct place and reduced the amount the body needed to expand. I'm hoping annealing will eliminate the extra steps so I can just load and shoot a regular Hornet load like everybody else seems to do.
Nitemann Report post Posted August 13, 2019 Did you try a different brand of brass? I have 2 22K Hornets and never had any split neck issues, Never have annealed them either. Hornet brass is extremely thin, I use Remington and Winchester brass which may be softer than the Nosler.
Nitemann Report post Posted August 14, 2019 Top for Ruger 77/22 to fit magazine. Bottom for single shot Ruger number 3. Both 40 gr.
elwood Report post Posted August 14, 2019 Nosler is the only brand of brass I have tried and it seems it is harder than Remington or Winchester. What 40 gr bullet are you using in the top load that fits in the 77/22 mag?
Nitemann Report post Posted August 14, 2019 It's the sierra 40 gr hollow point. The Hornady 35 gr vmax will fit as well.
elwood Report post Posted August 14, 2019 Thanks for the info. Tried the 35 gr V Max but not the Sierra HP.
